Morgan Wallen sets the record for the largest country music concert in the UK with his sold-out debut at London’s Hyde Park on July 4. Wallen performed for 50,000 fans at Hyde Park, his first UK appearance since playing to another sold-out crowd at The O2 in December. If you didn’t realize US country music was drawing a crowd in the UK, then you’re not alone. But not only is Morgan Wallen selling out shows there, now he’s setting records too: his sold-out concert at London’s Hyde Park on July 4 broke the record for the largest country concert ever in the UK.

Part of Wallen’s headlining stadium tour, One Night At a Time, the London concert drew 50,000 people to the venue — the most to have gathered for a country music concert in the region. His previous UK appearance at The O2 back in December also saw him performing for a sold-out crowd.

Despite the rising popularity of country music, the star power of “the boy from East Tennessee” overseas might be due in part to his notoriety (he’s been involved in a number of controversies this year alone, to say nothing of his earlier misdeeds).Or maybe it’s because of his recent history-making collaboration with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help,” Posty’s first foray into country music ahead of his country album debut. These events place Morgan Wallen more firmly in the cultural zeitgeist, beyond just country music.

And speaking of the cultural zeitgeist, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany were spotted cuddling at Morgan’s Hyde Park concert. The couple has been trekking across Europe over the past few weeks, but a celebrity couple making a stop to catch a concert definitely speaks volumes about an artist’s fame.

But whether it’s the man or his music, Wallen must be doing something right. His return to the UK comes ahead of his first-ever European tour, which kicks off in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 28. A seven-show run, the tour hits up Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and more, with a two-night stand in Dublin.
