BAGNAIA: “I TRIED TO BE 100%”

The reigning world champion pulled one back on Martin and closed the gap down to four points in the riders’ standings.

Bagnaia said: “I tried everything to be my 100% when riding and luckily I am able to ride at my 100%.

“I missed the start again and to overtake Jorge was very, very tough.

“I used his mistake to get the lead and after that moment everything was much easier for the front tyre.

“The pace today was incredible, one week ago to riding 1-2-3 is something unbelievable.

“This is unbelievable, I’m very happy and thanks to my team once again for doing an amazing job.”

MARTIN: “PECCO WAS UNSTOPPABLE TODAY”

After snatching the lead from Pecco on the opening lap, it looked like a win was in the bag for Martin. This was until he picked up a track limits warning halfway through the race which derailed his performance in fear that he would get a penalty.

A small mistake running wide in the closing stints of the sprint cost Martin the victory as Bagnaia stormed past.

Martin said: “Yeah for sure I couldn’t keep that concentration when I got the track limits warning.

“I did this small mistake that was the key for losing the race, if I stayed in front I could have had more opportunities.

“But Pecco was unstoppable today, I think for tomorrow I could be a bit stronger and we will find the way to be back with the victory.”

BASTIANINI: “PACE WAS WONDERFUL”

After securing the third slot on the podium, Enea Bastianini left the sprint today with high hopes for tomorrow with the fastest lap.

Bastianini said: “Yeah my pace was wonderful but Pecco’s one was the most wonderful today.

“The most difficult thing for me is always the first two or three laps, but after that I was confident to try close the gap but their pace was too good.

“Let’s see tomorrow if we can try and do something more.”

PECCO PREVAILS

Pecco Bagnaia prevailed in the Misano Sprint race after pulling away from championship rival Jorge Martin in final moments.

Martin snatched pole position off the line from Bagnaia, but the reigning world champion picked up the pieces and stormed past in the final few laps.

Marc Marquez managed to climb up to fourth after starting in seventh, but failed to overtake Enea Bastianini for the last podium slot.

Bastianini found himself setting the fastest lap and taking third place after holding off a speedy Marquez.

Bagnaia’s Sprint victory sees him close the gap to Martin in the Riders’ Standings, reducing it to just four points.

After regaining the lead, Bagnaia pulled off a perfect finish to his sprint race around Misano. Closing the gap to second-runner Martin, Bagnaia is hungry for more.

BAGNAIA HOLDS ONTO SPRINT LEAD

After pulling off the long-awaited move on Martin, Bagnaia managed to pull 0.5s away from Martin.

Joan Mir picked up a time penalty for exceeding track limits, while almost half the grid has been warned about the same issue.

Marquez sits in fourth place behind Bastianini who rescued himself from the Spaniard, pulling 3.5s away from the eight-time world champ.

BAGNAIA RETAKES THE LEAD

Bagnaia has managed to close the gap to Martin after a few laps of pushing his bike beyond oblivion.

The reigning champ is just 0.2s behind Martin on Lap 7, desperate to get past the Spaniard.

By Lap 9, Bagnaia pulled off a remarkable move on Martin to retake the lead. Martin ran wide around a narrow corner and lost the position to an eager Bagnaia who stormed past.

Meanwhile, Bastianini pulls away 1.1s away from Marquez who settles in fourth place ahead of Acosta.

MARTIN LEADS AS BAGNAIA CHASES

Martin leads the pack around Misano while Bagnaia throws his bike frustratingly around the narrow corners, losing time to the Spaniard storming ahead.

The gap between Bastianini and Bagnaia is increasing as he falls under pressure from Marquez looking to steal the final podium slot.

Many riders have received warnings for track limits as the infamously narrow track proves to be challenging once again.

Race-leader Martin found himself under pressure as he picked up a warning for exceeding track limits.

ACOSTA COMES THROUGH

In a powerful charge through the field, Pedro Acosta climbs up to fifth place after overtaking Brad Binder around the narrow corners of Misano.

Martin has managed to pull half a second away from Bagnaia as they exchange fastest laps. Going blow for blow, the two title rivals are on the hunt for crucial points in the riders’ championship.

Lingering in the background, Marc Marquez has found an edge on Bastianini who falls under pressure from the speedy Spaniard just 0.5s behind.

MARTIN SNATCHES LEAD FROM BAGNAIA

Jorge Martin snatched pole position from Pecco Bagnaia on the opening lap, pulling 0.6s away from the Italian rider.

Marc Marquez found himself in fourth after climbing three placing on the opening lap, tailing behind the two Ducati Lenovo riders occupying the last two podium slots.

The riders set off on the formation lap around the narrow circuit in much cooler conditions than two weeks ago.

Today’s sprint will see prime racing conditions as the sun beams down on the track. It’s not too hot nor is there a chance of rain. The riders sit in a cosy temperature of 24°C while they prepare to head off on the formation lap around the iconic Misano circuit. Track temperatures have reached 36°C.

MARTIN: IT WILL BE A “DIFFICULT TASK TO BEAT PECCO”

After being bested by his championship rival Pecco Bagnaia in qualifying, Jorge Martin believes it will be a difficult task to beat the reigning world champion around Misano.

Martin told TNT Sports: “Well, I don’t know about the race, for sure I focus on myself and I think I can do it.

“It will be a really difficult task to beat Pecco today, but I will give my 100%.

“I feel comfortable, I’m super happy that we improved the qualifying position because two weeks ago I was struggling quite a lot.

“So, overall, I think we are working quite well and Pecco, he’s in a good shape, so I will try to stop him.”

BAGNAIA: “WILL BE A CRUCIAL FIRST LAP”

Pecco Bagnaia put in an extraordinary qualifying performance to deny Jorge Martin pole position by just 0.214s. The Italian rider starts the race from a hugely important position, on the hunt for crucial points in the title fight.

Bagnaia said: “If it was in normal conditions with normal temperatures I think it could be much faster.

“In any case, I’m happy – I know every single detail about this track so I think you never stop learning.

“This morning the condition was not too good but 30.0 is unbelievable and it’s the best way to start this afternoon.

“I think it will be a very crucial first lap for the sprint and then let’s see.”

MICHELIN DELAYS 2025 TYRE FIX

News broke that Michelin has delayed its front tyre fix from 2025 to the unforeseeable future. Their big dreamy plans to design new front tyres to alleviate tyre pressure issues has fallen through and leaves the MotoGP grid in a mess.

Throughout the year, riders have been penalised for low tyre pressures that are illegal in the regulations. A magical solution was proposed by Michelin, even testing the tyre at Misano with great feedback.

However, Michelin’s Piero Taramasso confirmed that the new tyre will not be available for at least another season.

Taramasso said: “We needed some time after the Misano test to analyse all the data, and the final conclusion is that the tyre will not be introduced in 2025. This was the initial plan, but now we need to delay the initial introduction.

“The reason is simple. It’s not enough to have one test. One test isn’t enough to introduce something new. We need to confirm it in different tracks and different conditions.

“It’s very sensitive, the feeling, and riders need more data to be sure that when we introduce it it’ll be a good tyre with good performance for all the riders and manufacturers. Once you introduce it you cannot go back.”
