NASCAR driver ’embarrassed’ as bizarre webbed glove that got him disqualified is shown to press

In one of the most bizarre pictures to come out of NASCAR, the series managing director was seen holding up an illegal webbed glove.

Cup Series managing director Brad Moran presented a modified glove from Joey Logano, who was disqualified from last weekend’s qualifying due to the piece of equipment.

Presenting the black and white glove with webbing in between each finger, it’s understood Logano would have placed his hand out of his window to use it as an aerodynamic blocker.

The no.22 car was sent from second to the back of the grid in Atlanta and fined $10,000 [£7900] for his use of illegal equipment, and neither driver nor team appealed the decision.

Logano’s car was pulled in for a random inspection after qualifying when the glove was discovered, and Moran has now shown the bizarre piece of equipment to the media.

“This obviously goes one step further, and that glove becomes not only a competition problem but it goes one step further because it becomes a safety violation.”

With a normal hand out the window worth three counts of drag, rivals have speculated that Logano could have gained more than twice that advantage.
