NBA insider refuses to believe Paul George will bring 76ers a championship

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired star Paul George in free agency to win an NBA championship, but one NBA insider remains unconvinced this goal is realistic.

George undoubtedly vaults the Sixers among the top of the Eastern Conference alongside the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. However, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently pointed out the lack of postseason success George’s teams have amounted to, specifically the Los Angeles Clippers.

“I want to say this about Paul George, it’s certainly the headline of the summer, without question,” Windhorst said on First Take. “This is the fourth time in about seven years that Paul George has been the headliner of an offseason move. This is now the fourth time you could say he was a leading headline in the offseason. The previous three have led to what? That’s my point.”

.@WindhorstESPN is “tired” of the idea that adding Paul George “changes everything” for a team 😯

— First Take (@FirstTake) July 4, 2024The Clippers reached the Western Conference Finals once during George’s five-year tenure, where they were defeated by Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns. While injuries played a crucial role in the downward spiral, the expectations were championship or bust. The Clippers’ front office put their future at risk in hopes George and Kawhi Leonard could bring home the first title in franchise history, but failed to add the appropriate pieces around the duo.

Now, George heads to Philadelphia to “play the right brand of basketball” while contending for a championship with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
