Ndidi scores again as five-star Leicester City condemn Aribo’s Southampton to damning defeat
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi scored his second consecutive goal for Leicester City in their 5-0 bashing of Southampton at the King Power Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Championship leaders Leicester City welcomed fellow promotion hopefuls Southampton to the King Power Stadium in what was a crucial encounter for both side.
Super Eagles midfielder Ndidi scored for the Foxes over the weekend in their 2-1 win over West Brom, and coach Enzo Maresca handed him a starting shirt again. However, Kelechi Iheanacho was inconspicuously missing from the starting lineup. On the other hand, Joe Aribo, who has been in brilliant form recently, started for Southampton.
The Saints dominated the first half possession but Leicester City were the more dangerous side. It took them 25 minutes to claim the lead, and it was their star forward Issahaku Fatawu who scored.
Southampton started the second half well, but even with Aribo on the pitch, they failed to create clear-cut chances. However, Leicester City took the initiative, with Ndidi scoring the second goal to give his side a cushion.

Ndidi showed his killer instinct, reacting quickest to a cross from Stephy Mavididi and sending a well-placed header into the net. From there, it all went downhill for the Saints as a brace from Fatawu and a strike from Jamie Vardy sealed a 5-0 win for the Foxes.
Nigeria midfielder Aribo played 83 minutes. He registered 53 touches, 89% pass accuracy, and one successful dribble. Meanwhile, aside from his goal, Ndidi registered two clearances, three goal attempts, two key passes, and 41 touches.
Following Southampton’s loss, the only way they can now gain promotion to the Premier League is through the playoffs, as they can no longer finish in the top two spots.
