The UTD Podcast first launched in the autumn of 2019 and, in that time, we’ve enjoyed spending hundreds of hours interviewing some of the club’s biggest-ever names.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney are among those to have appeared in front of the microphone over the course of almost 200 episodes, but, up until now, one of the most recognisable voices in English football had been conspicuous by his absence.

Only four men have played for the Reds more often than Gary Neville, with erstwhile team-mates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes the only players to lift more trophies.

The Bury-born former right-back is now most recognisable as a Sky Sports pundit and host of the award-winning Overlap podcast, while he’s also the co-owner of Salford City and a member of the Old Trafford regeneration task force.

All of that adds up to a busy schedule, but we’re delighted to say that we’ve finally managed to record an episode with Gary, which you’ll be able to listen to from 17:00 BST on Monday 3 June.

Over the course of 80 minutes, the older Neville sibling runs through the full gamut of topics with hosts Helen Evans, Sam Homewood and David May, from his early beginnings coming through the ranks at the club to his careers in broadcasting and business.

He touches upon his involvement in the stadium project – “Tottenham is the benchmark. It’s a stunning stadium, brand new and we need to get to that level” – and also explains why he is, at times, critical of United on TV: “Sometimes, I think maybe I’ve gone too far and that might mean that my relationship with fans is maybe not as strong as it was when I played, but I long for the day when this club is successful again.”

This year marks the 25th anniversary of our incredible Treble triumph and those halcyon days of 1999 are also covered in great detail.

“I think we generally were quite aware at the time, particularly those of us who had been United fans, that it was probably never going to get as good as this again,” he said.
“But that didn’t mean we couldn’t continue to keep trying winning every single season that we played.”

There are funny moments galore too, as Nev recalls a boozy trip to Malta with David Beckham and Ben Thornley and regales the tale of the time he uttered a certain four-letter word to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Keep your eyes peeled for more videos from the podcast over the weekend, before the interview’s full release to United App and ManUtd.com users on Monday.
