New deal: Man City ‘secure’ long-term future of key player
Manchester City reportedly agree a deal in principle to secure the long-term future of one of the key players in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement with Ruben Dias over a new contract.
The Citizens have focused on adding to their squad this summer, having delved into the transfer market to strengthen in a number of areas.
They have recruited the midfield duo of Sverre Nypan and Tijjani Reijnders, while they have also recruited two goalkeepers in James Trafford and Marcus Bettinelli.
Left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and attacker Rayan Cherki have also arrived as part of Pep Guardiola’s summer rebuild.Â
In addition to bolstering their ranks, Man City are also keen to retain the services of those who are seen as key members of Guardiola’s squad.
Man City agree new Dias contractDias fits the bill as one of the club’s top centre-backs, and he is now on the verge of putting pen to paper on a fresh deal.
According to The Athletic, the Citizens have reached an agreement in principle with Dias over a new contract.Â
Man City have moved to secure Dias’s long-term future, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2027.Â
Dias has spent the last five years at the Etihad Stadium, but he seemingly has no plans to end his successful association with the club.
How important is Dias to Man City?Dias has made 222 competitive appearances since he joined Man City from Benfica in the summer of 2020.
The 28-year-old has helped the Citizens win multiple honours, including four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
Dias struggled with a few injury issues in the 2024-25 campaign, but he still managed to make 44 appearances across all competitions.
The Portuguese centre-back, who is part of Man City’s captaincy group, should continue to be a regular fixture in the upcoming season despite facing competition from Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Josko Gvardiol and Abdukodir Khusanov.
