New Rumours Suggest PS6 & Next-Gen Xbox Could Both Release In 2027
Another head-to-head year?

Yesterday, we covered the big Xbox ‘Magnus’ Leak and what it could potentially mean for Microsoft’s next-gen console – and while some of that information admittedly goes a little over our heads, the rumoured release window is something that we can fully understand. Yep, that leak again suggests that the next-gen Xbox is due out in 2027, and now a fresh rumour doing the rounds says that Sony’s PS6 could follow suit.
As shared by Insider Gaming, apparent leaker ‘KeplerL2′ took to NeoGAF to say that Sony’s “plan” is to release PS6 in 2027, barring “any unexpected delays”. The insider was responding to a number of questions and queries relating to yesterday’s AMD partnership video that contained lots of information about PlayStation’s future plans. We’ll throw the exact forum exchange down below:
Nial: “That’s just semantics, I literally saw people say the exact opposite. 2027 is on the table.”
KeplerL2: “Not just on the table, it’s the plan unless any unexpected delays happen.”
Interestingly, one of KeplerL2’s other responses related directly to Magnus, with the insider saying that the next-gen Xbox will “of course” get the updates discussed by Sony and AMD in this new video. This is something we covered on the site yesterday – we’ll chuck a link to that down below; it contains some interesting quotes from the AMD boss about how everyone will benefit from the company’s work on PS6.
Going back to our coverage on the Magnus leak for a moment – while it sounds as though the launch year in question could cause some competition between Sony and Microsoft, the devices themselves may not be quite as comparable as previous generations. In fact, the leak suggests that Microsoft’s machine “is going to be much more than a console” and will “challenge the PC gaming market at least somewhat directly”. It’s expected that PS6 will be a much more traditional console in comparison, although this is all rumour / speculation at present and should be taken as such.
It’s also worth noting that the PS5-in-2027 rumour comes from someone who talked about Xbox’s first-party handheld recently and that was disputed by Windows Central’s Jez Corden, so it’s always taking rumours with a pinch of salt. In any case, we could be in a pretty interesting situation in roughly two years’ time, and we’re very intrigued to see how it all plays out. While the nature of the two systems may not match up directly, 2027 could potentially be the year for both of them, and you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll be there for it.
Excited to see it all potentially go down in 2027? Talk to us about PS6 and the next Xbox down below.
