Bayern had initially enquired over a loan deal for the 33-year-old, which Newcastle refused to entertain.
talkSPORT reported over the weekend that Trippier was pushing to join the German giants before the window closes next week.
Thomas Tuchel has made bringing in a right-back his top priority having already brought in centre-back cover in the form of Eric Dier on loan.
It is believed that Trippier has agreed a verbal agreement with the Allianz Arena outfit.

But they are yet to find an agreement with the Toon in their quest to prise the ex-Tottenham star away from St James’ Park.
A move would see Trippier reunited with former Tottenham and England teammates Harry Kane and Dier.
Trippier only made the move to Newcastle two years ago from Atletico Madrid, where he joined in a £12m deal.
He was the club’s first signing under their new Saudi ownership, with the full-back helping Newcastle survive before playing a key role in them qualifying for the Champions League the following season.

Trippier remains one of England’s top right-backs
His form has seen him remain in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with Trippier already matching last season’s tally of seven Premier League assists this term.
Though he has been guilty of big mistakes in Newcastle’s last few matches, which has played a role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup exit and slide down the table.
Eddie Howe opens up on Newcastle United’s FFP issues and sends defiant message to fans about if they will have to sell star players
Newcastle aren’t just planning to block a potential move for Trippier, but also for star striker Callum Wilson.
The ex-Bournemouth forward has been the subject of a surprise enquiry from Atletico Madrid.
But Newcastle’s stance, however, is that the pair are not for sale this month.
