NFC North standings: Detroit Lions begin season in the cellar after ugly Packers loss
There are still two teams yet to play their Week 1 games in the NFC North division, but nothing can stop the Detroit Lions from starting the 2025 campaign in last place.
The Lions got their doors blown off by the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, with head coach Dan Campbell’s squad getting dominated in every facet en route to a 27-13 defeat.
Superstar linebacker Micah Parsons showed just how much of a game-changer he can be, and did so in limited snaps. Parsons got multiple pressures, notched one sack and he got in the face of quarterback Jared Goff on his lone interception.
The kind of go-for-it move the Lions should’ve made for their pass-rush is certainly paying dividends for Green Bay early on.
Safe to say, Lions fans are already worried about what they saw on Sunday, and rightly so, as the new play-callers and new-look offensive line struggled, as did Detroit’s pass-rush, which didn’t tally a single sack.
It was all of Lions fans’ worst nightmares coming true.
Here’s a look at the NFC North standings going into Monday night.
NFC North standings1. Green Bay Packers (1-0)
2. Chicago Bears (0-0)
3. Minnesota Vikings (0-0)
4. Detroit Lions (0-1)
“I thought we’d be cleaner than we were,” Campbell said after the game.
“Not even close to good enough, right?” Goff said of the loss to Green Bay. “There needs to be an urgency of improvement. There has to be. Today wasn’t even close to good enough offensively.”
The Bears and Vikings will square off on Monday night, and the loser will share the bottom spot in the NFC North with the Lions while the winner will sit in a tie with the Packers for first place.
Green Bay will face another top team when they host the Washington Commanders in Week 2 on Thursday night.
The Lions will look to rebound and nab their first win of the 2025 campaign against the Bears in Detroit and the Minnesota Vikings draw a home contest against the Atlanta Falcons.
