NFF declares Jose Peseiro and Nduka Ugbade’s coaching roles vacant
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the opening of the Super Eagles coaching position, ending negotiations for a new contract extension with Jose Peseiro, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Simultaneously, the role of the Nigerian under-17 national team, previously held by former Super Eagles player Nduka Ugbade, is now vacant.
The former Venezuelan manager bid farewell to the Super Eagles team via his social media platform after his contract with the NFF expired.
Meanwhile, despite meeting his target by guiding the Nigerian national team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, disagreements over salary terms arose.
Initially, Peseiro agreed to a reduced salary of $50,000 before the AFCON tournament, and the same salary was offered after the tournament which does not sit well for Peseiro.
However, the NFF improved their offer to $80,000, which still fell short of the coach’s expectations, leading to his departure.
Meanwhile, Ugbade was unable to secure a U-17 World Cup ticket for his team, failing to meet the NFF’s expectations. Consequently, the federation is seeking a new manager for the role.
Several candidates, including Emmanuel Amuneke, Augustine Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, and Finidi George, have been linked to the Super Eagles coaching position.
With the Super Eagles scheduled to face El Salvador later this month, the NFF aims to appoint a caretaker manager for the international friendly.
