NFL analyst has Jaguars running back making first Pro Bowl in 2024
Though he’s only played two seasons, one could make the case that Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne is already one of the most underrated running backs in the entire NFL. The running back position has seen a significant decline in its acclaim over the years, but even in that environment, Etienne doesn’t get the credit he deserves as one of the league’s premier young rushers.
Through two healthy seasons with the Jaguars, Etienne — who missed his entire rookie season with a Lisfranc injury — has proven himself amongst the top rushers in the game. He’s put together back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons. He’s also proven that he’s not one-dimensional, providing the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a dependable outlet in the passing game. Etienne has added more than 90 receptions in his two seasons, proving his worth as a three-down back.
All that, and yet he has yet to make a Pro Bowl. That changes in 2024, according to one NFL analyst. Lorenzo Reyna of Pro Football Network recently identified one player from each team who is primed to make their first Pro Bowl. For a lot of teams, rookies were the obvious candidate. But for the Jags, it’s clear that their running back is on the precipice of the honor.
There are significant reports out of Jaguars training camp that fellow running back Tank Bigsby is having a great camp, which could eat into Etienne’s share at the position. However, similar reports came out of camp last season, and Etienne was the clear-cut RB1 in Jacksonville’s offense. That isn’t likely to change this season, and if Etienne can put up a repeat of his first two seasons, this could be the year he finally breaks through.
