NFL Power Rankings: Week 8 Edition
Now that Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books, it’s time for an incredibly meaningful and serious exercise: NFL Power Rankings! What differentiates these rankings from all the others is that they’re THE only truly accurate ones in the entire universe. We use a proprietary system that heavily accounts for all-important vibes. Let’s take a look at how all 32 teams stack up. (Click here for last week’s version.)
– Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 1) – Pretty cute of any other team to think their season actually matters when the Chiefs are just inevitably going to win it all again.
– Detroit Lions (LW: 2) – The Lions have more touchdowns than incompletions over the past four weeks. Pretty efficient! Detroit is a prime contender to boost an already stacked roster with even more talent prior to the NFL trade deadline.
– Baltimore Ravens (LW: 4) – Lamar Jackson is playing the best football of his career. One of the best regular season players you’ll ever see.
– Buffalo Bills (LW: 6) – Making his Bills debut, Amari Cooper’s five targets resulted in four catches for 66 yards and one touchdown. He’s going to be a really good pickup for them.
– Minnesota Vikings (LW: 3) – A two-point loss to the Lions hardly proves they’re frauds but the Vikings lost their claim to being THE top team in the NFC.
– Green Bay Packers (LW: 7) – Three wins in a row for the Packers. They’re in good position to make it four straight with a game against Jacksonville up next. Then it’s a big NFC North battle against Detroit.
– Houston Texans (LW: 5) – The Texans’ +6 point differential ranks tied for 17th. Who are they tied with? An Indy team that’s chasing them for the AFC South lead.
– Washington Commanders (LW: 8) – Kudos to the Commanders for stomping an obviously inept Carolina team. Washington owns the NFL’s best point differential at +66. Jayden Daniels’ injury has the potential to prove troublesome, though.
– Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 12) – Saquon Barkley is the best running back in the NFC. Averaging 6.1 yards per carry, he’s simply too good. The Eagles’ defense also deserves a shout out here for not allowing a touchdown since Week 4.
– Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 13) – Joe Burrow has the third-best passer rating in the NFL at 110.1. He’s throw 14 touchdowns to just two interceptions. A couple weeks ago, I called my shot and said the Bengals are going to win four in a row to revive their season. Two down, two more to go.
– Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 14) – Hm, maybe … just maybe … Mike Tomlin knows what he’s doing? And Justin Fields isn’t that great? The Steelers were averaging 20.8 points per game in his starts. They scored 37 with Russell Wilson taking his place.
– Atlanta Falcons (LW: 9) – Really bad and noncompetitive home loss. The Falcons currently lead the NFC South but they have the third-worst point differential in the division at -6.
– Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 10) – With an opportunity to go up 17 to 7, Baker Mayfield instead threw an interception in the end zone that allowed Baltimore to seize control of the game with 27 unanswered points. Making matters worse for the Bucs, both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin got hurt.
– San Francisco 49ers (LW: 11) – It’s so clearly not their year. Brandon Aiyuk is the latest 49er to go down due to injury.
– Chicago Bears (LW: 16) – Da Bears return from their bye to take on the Commanders in Landover, Maryland. Can Chicago win their fourth game in a row?
– Arizona Cardinals (LW: 20) – A narrow win where Kyler Murray didn’t look all that great isn’t super inspiring. But the Cards are staying alive in an NFC West that appears to be up for grabs. And they have the best division record so far at 2-0.
– Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 15) – Jim Harbaugh hates scoring points. Only four teams have scored fewer than the Bolts this season.
– Seattle Seahawks (LW: 22) – Seattle needed to stop the bleeding after losing three in a row and that’s exactly what they did. They currently lead the NFC West.
– Denver Broncos (LW: 23) – The Broncos have won four out of their last five and have the ninth-best point differential in the NFL. With Carolina up next, they have a real chance to leave Week 8 with a 5-3 record.
– Indianapolis Colts (LW: 21) – Anthony Richardson is completing just 48.5% of his passes and he’s thrown twice as many interceptions (6) as touchdowns (3). The Colts could be due for some losses with Houston, Minnesota, Buffalo, NYJ, and Detroit up next on their schedule.
– Dallas Cowboys (LW: 19) – The Cowboys return from their bye to play a road game against the Niners, a team they always struggle to beat. Dallas is in real jeopardy of dropping to 3-4.
– New York Jets (LW: 17) – Since firing Robert Saleh, the Jets are 0-2. Aaron Rodgers’ two wins this season have come against Will Levis and Jacoby Brissett (since benched).
– Los Angeles Rams (LW: 24) – A close win over Las Vegas hardly signals the Rams are back but they could be getting healthier soon. Might be too early to bury them.
– New Orleans Saints (LW: 18) – The Saints outscored their opponents by 62 points in the first two weeks. Since then, they’ve been outscored by 65 points through five straight losses.
– New York Giants (LW: 25) – Congrats to the Giants on being the first team in 2024 to lose three division games. With a 2-5 overall record and a road game against Pittsburgh up next, it’s time to stick a fork in them.
– Las Vegas Raiders (LW: 26) – Antonio Pierce is an awful game management head coach. He previously had a big gaffe in Week 1 and now this:
– Tennessee Titans (LW: 27) – Not surprising that the Titans were unable to win with Mason Rudolph starting.
– Miami Dolphins (LW: 28) – Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly ready to return. But it’s really hard to believe he should be out there playing football after taking so many serious hits to the head.
– Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 31) – Doug Pederson bought himself at least a little more time by beating the lowly Pats. Unfortunately for him, the schedule is about to get much rougher.
– Cleveland Browns (LW: 30) – Deshaun Watson’s season is over. The Browns might actually have a chance to not be totally as terrible now?
– Carolina Panthers (LW: 29) – The Panthers have lost six out of seven games this season and none of them were even competitive. Very unserious team.
– New England Patriots (LW: 32) – Drake Maye has been showing some potential, which is important. But the Pats are pretty terrible, losing their sixth game in a row.
