The great philosophers of One Direction once said: “I don’t care what people say when we’re together/You know I wanna be the one who’ll hold you when you sleep.” The deep cut, “Happily” from 2013’s Midnight Memories, would have fit perfectly into the first official trailer for The Idea of You. Adapted from Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as a 40-year-old single mother and 24-year-old boy band star, respectively, caught up in a whirlwind forbidden romance.

The film’s premise is every Wattpad reader’s dream — except their mom is the main character instead of them. When Solène (Hathaway) and Hayes Campbell (Galitzine) accidentally cross paths at Coachella, where his band August Moon is booked to perform on the main stage, it opens up the floodgates for her to be pulled into his world.

“What about what people will say,” Solène asks Hayes in the clip. Barely a beat goes by before he responds: “I don’t care what they say.” But when paparazzi shots of their vacation getaways end up on the gossip blogs with the headline “Hayes Caught a Cougar,” they’re both forced to confront whether their future together will play out closer to One Direction’s “They Don’t Know About Us,” or if they’ll have to pull a page from ‘Nsync’s book and say “Bye Bye Bye.”

The trailer for The Idea of You enters its own song into the encyclopedia of dance-pop boy band songs. The debut single from the film’s soundtrack, “Dance Before We Walk,” soundtracks Solène and Hayes’ love story. Another record, “Closer to You,” appears earlier in the clip as part of August Moon’s Coachella setlist.

The Idea of You was directed by Michael Showalter. Ella Rubin, Reid Scott and Annie Mumolo, also star in the film out May 2 on Prime Video.
