Nikki Haley Implies Biden and Trump Are Decrepit Old Fools in New Ad Campaign
What does Nikki Haley think of Donald Trump and Joe Biden? Sheâs running against one for the GOP primary, hoping to face the other in the general election, so obviously, she does not believe either should be president. But in a new ad campaign being released this week, the former South Carolina governor tells us how she really feels: namely, that both men are decrepit, doddering old fools.
Yes, in a series of new spots the Haley campaign plans to start rolling out on Wednesday, Trump and Biden are depicted as âGrumpy Old Men,â a reference to the 1993 movie starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. According to The New York Times, the spots will include online videos, digital ads, and voter emailsâand will âtake shots at, among other things, her rivalsâ signs of mental confusion, their light presence on the campaign trail, and their economic policies leading to high inflation.â Some episode titles include âStumbling Seniors,â âBasement Buddies,â and âProfligate Pols.â
In a statement, a spokeswoman for Haleyâs campaign said, âNearly 50% of Republicans and 70% of Americans donât want to watch grumpy old men stumble across America when our country is on the brink and the world is on fire. Sadly, this version of grumpy old men offers no comic reliefâjust chaos, confusion, and a bad sense of dĂ©jĂ vu for the American people.â
Last February, without directly naming Trump (or Biden), Haley called for compulsory competency tests for elected officials over 75, saying, âIn the America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire.â Earlier this month, she questioned Trumpâs mental fitness after he appeared to confuse her with Nancy Pelosi. âTheyâre saying he got confused, that he was talking about something else, heâs talking about Nancy Pelosi,â Haley said in Keene, New Hampshire. âThe concern I have isâIâm not saying anything derogatoryâbut when youâre dealing with the pressures of the presidency, we canât have someone else that we question whether theyâre mentally fit to do this.â Later, she added: âMy parents are up in age, and I love them dearly. But when you see them hit a certain age, there is a decline. Thatâs a factâask any doctor, there is a decline.â
