Niners WR Deebo Samuel (calf) active vs. Patriots Sep 29, 2024
Deebo Samuel is back after a week away.
Samuel, dealing with a calf injury, is officially active for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
The star wide receiver progressed throughout the week as he was a limited participant in Thursday’s and Friday’s practice. San Francisco listed Samuel as questionable for the Week 4 tilt.
Samuel suffered a calf injury in the 49ers’ Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Samuel’s setback was part of a snowball effect on the club, which caught the injury bug to begin the season with running back Christian McCaffrey, who is dealing with calf and Achilles injuries. McCaffrey has not played a game in the 2024 season and was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 14. Tight end George Kittle suffered a setback with a hamstring issue at practice before the 49ers’ Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Kittle missed the NFC West game at SoFi Stadium.
In Samuel’s absence, Jauan Jennings turned in a career game with 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 3 loss. Jennings became the third 49ers player in the Super Bowl era with at least 175 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in a game, joining Hall of Famers Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice, per NFL Research.
Heading into Week 4, Kittle has no injury designation and is set to play on Sunday after missing one game.
In two games this season, Samuel has 13 receptions for 164 yards, including 10 carries for 13 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The 49ers and Patriots kick off in Santa Clara, California at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
