Key Takeaways:
Normani revealed her admiration for five legendary women who influenced her musical journey.
Her picks came during a sit-down with Ciara on âLevel Up Radio,â where they also discussed their âEcstasy (Remix)â collab.
Ciara added MĂœa as her own honorable mention, sharing a personal story about writing for her at age 15.
Ciaraâs âLevel Up Radioâ returned for its second season with a very special guest: Normani. During Wednesdayâs (Oct. 22) episode, the two exchanged plenty of compliments, discussed their recent âEcstasy (Remix)â collab, and, in one of the sit-downâs highlights, the DOPAMINE artist revealed her Mount Rushmore of female singers and dancers.
When Ciara asked her to name her picks, Normani immediately answered, âJanet [Jackson], you, Tina Turner.â After thinking for a moment, she added, âLetâs see, who else? [BeyoncĂ©],â to which the âGoodiesâ hitmaker responded, âThatâs a good one.â
Normani paused for a bit before squeezing in one more R&B icon on her list: âIâma throw in Teena Marie.â CiCi reacted, âOK, thatâs a real classic, unexpected one.â The Houston-bred singer explained that she âgrew upâ listening to Marie, leading Ciara to jokingly tease her for not growing up on 112 â the R&B group known for âCupidâ and âAnywhereâ â as well.
Ciara later gave a special shoutout to MĂœa as her honorable mention. âShe was so dope,â she shared. âGrowing up, she was actually someone that I wrote for when I was really young, and I was just starting to really work as a writer or develop my penmanship. I was 15 years old.â Check out the full clip below.
Having Normani on âLevel Up Radioâ made perfect sense, especially since âEcstasy (Remix)â marked her second feature since DOPAMINE â the first being Khalidâs âPersonalâ last year. Also featured on the CiCi (Deluxe) track was Teyana Taylor, whom Ciara said she was thrilled to have join the record.
âI feel like collaboration was different [back] then,â Normani said. Ciara responded, âIt was really common, right? Thatâs why, for me, itâs nostalgic when we got together to do âEcstasyâ â me, you, and Teyana â because itâs kind of what I grew up loving.â
