North Carolina Man’s Fortune Cookie Brings $200K Lottery Win

Sometimes a big lottery win is one ticket away. Yet, if people don’t listen to their inner voice or follow different signs, they may miss out on a massive payout. However, this is not the case for a Randolph County, North Carolina man, who recently won a hefty lottery prize from a scratch-off ticket.

The incredibly fortunate player cracked a fortune cookie that gave him advice not to miss his chance for a big win, and amazingly, won a staggering $200,000 scratch-off prize afterward. The lucky winner’s name is John Carter from Trinity, as announced by the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Carter won the hefty prize after purchasing the Lottery’s $5 scratch-off ticket, Pot of Gold. The lucky man bought the ticket from Hillsville Country Mart on Hillsville Road in Trinity.

Visiting the lottery headquarters recently, Carter revealed that he plans to buy a boat for fishing and pay bills with the money from the prize. After the applicable federal and state taxes, the lucky winner’s bank account inflated with $143,000 and change.

Considering that this was the last Pot of Gold grand prize, the Lottery will proceed with ending the game. The popular scratch-off game launched back in December and has only one large prize of $10,000 remaining in play. A majority of the $1,000 prizes, which were 40 at the launch of the game, have also been claimed with only seven remaining in play.

The overall chances of winning a prize from the $5 scratch-off game are 1 in 4.37.

Fortune Cookie: “Don’t Miss out on Your Chance to Win Big”
Carter was asked about the moment he decided to buy the lottery ticket. He said he just visited a Chinese restaurant and cracked a fortune cookie that read: “Don’t miss on your chance to win big.”

Following the cookie’s wise advice, Carter purchased the Pot of Gold scratch-off ticket. After scratching the ticket on-site at the store, he said he was amazed to see one zero appearing after the other. The lucky winner said about the moment he won: “I thought, ‘This has got to be a dream.’”

Recently, law enforcement in Granville County shut down a cockfighting ring. The actions of the Granville County Sheriff’s Office helped rescue nearly 200 birds, while also resulting in the arrest of more than a dozen people involved in the unlawful gambling activity.
