Nottingham Forest’s injured AFCON star Ola Aina returns to training
Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles versatile full-back, Temitayo Olaoluwa Aina has returned to training after picking up an injury during international duty, Soccernet.ng reports.
Aina, 27, played all seven games for the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2023 outing in Ivory Coast and made the team of the tournament after an outstanding performance for Jose Peseiro’s team.
Questions were raised about the performance of the former Torino man against the host in the final, as he was constantly beaten by Simon Adingra, who provided two assists in the final to nail the three-time African Champions.
On his return from Ivory Coast, Nottingham boss, Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that Aina played picked up an injury in the semi-final of the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
It is also worth noting that the former Fulham man played a hundred and twenty minutes against the Bafana Bafana in the semi-final, before another ninety against Ivory Coast.
In a recent post on the official Forest Facebook account, Aina was spotted participating in training sessions, indicating his progress en route to full fitness as the Reds battle to avoid relegation in the English Premier League.
Aina’s last appearance for Nottingham Forest was against Manchester United on December 30, where Forest secured a 2-1 victory at the City Ground. Despite his injury setback, Aina has scored once and created another goal in twelve league starts for the Reds this season, showcasing his versatility and contribution to the team.
Nottingham Forest are 17th on the Premier League table, four points above Luton Town in 18th place, and a point less than Everton in 16th place.
