Off-White Fall 2024 Ready-To-Wear Runway: Celebrity Appearances And Looks

Off-White held its Fall 2024 ready-to-wear runway in Paris on Thursday (Feb. 29). Ib Kamara, the mastermind who took over OW after Virgil Abloh’s 2021 passing, spearheaded the collection. According to WWD, the show’s heart was defined by an unapologetic love for “Africanness,” “Americanness,” and a passion for sports. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the show was aptly titled “Black by Popular Demand.” Yeah, we super Black. 

The Sierra Leone-born designer spoke about the gap-bridging powers of blending both Black American and African cultures into the show’s ethos. He also explained how important it was to honor and continue Abloh’s original vision for the brand while also making it wholly new. 

“Off-White is Black and was founded by an African American genius, and African American culture and American culture is so loud and has such a big presence globally. For us, to come back and show it’s important that legacy lives on,” Kamara said. 

Ib also told Fashionista that the “Black By Popular Demand” show would also be outright fun. He detailed that he wanted the show to be an ode to Black culture’s ever-growing “global” presence.

“African American culture is loud, it’s optimistic, it’s fun, it’s cool—it’s culture,” Kamara told the outlet. “The Off-White woman and man is a global citizen, and I wanted to express that. It’s American, it’s African, it’s east, it’s west. It’s well-traveled. It’s street, and I think street is a universal language. As you travel from country to country, there’s always a street energy that Off-White evokes. I wanted to push that.”

Audiences were exposed to all of these elements at the Paris show. Nods to Americana arrived through Wilson basketballs with Off-White branding, Off-White’s very own basketball sneakers (which kind of looked like an ode to Stephon Marbury’s Starbury line), and Y2K-inspired purses. Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious” was even used as the show’s closing track. 

The runway itself reflected one of Ib’s favorite pastimes living in Sierra Leone: Ludo. Off-White’s runway was constructed to look like a giant Ludo board, with models acting as the game’s main players. 

Pieces in the Fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection featured beautiful imagery consisting of flowers, stars, dice, butterflies, and the brand’s signature arrows.

And all of this was accentuated with star power, of course. Celebrities such as Halle Bailey, Willow Smith, Winston Duke, and more all popped out for the celebration.
