Oguaa Fetu Afahye@60 boxing good platform for youth  – C/R Minister

The Central Regional Minis­ter, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, has described the Oguaa Fetu Afahyecelebration as one of the biggest festivals in Ghana that offers the youtha unique opportu­nity to showcase their talents and potentials.

The festival enters its 60th edition this year with a series of activities including a boxing extrav­agansa lined upto mark it.

Welcoming a delegation from the Central Region Boxing Fed­eration (CRBF), organiser of the boxing show, Mrs Assan, explained that the eventwould influence the youth who are into drugs, armed robbery and other negative vices to stop and take to boxing or any other sport.

She commended the regional boxing federation for the initiative­bringing on board boxing teams from four regions including the host, Greater Accra, Western and Volta.

They are expected to present teams in the regular, girls and juve­nile divisions.

The Regional Minister also expressed excitementat the visit by the boxing federation led by its Chairman, Mr Twintoh Walker, and his vice, Mr Francis Kingsley Arthur.

The Regional Minister pledged her support for the championships and urged individuals and corpo­rate organisations in and outside the region to support it.

Mr Walker presented a branded Polo Shirt and a Cap to Mrs Assan, and used the occasion to officially invite her for the championship and specially support Team Central region.

Mr Walker appealed for sup­port for the event which would change the lives of the teeming youth on the street.

He stated that the federation’s aim was to make boxing in the region a monthly event, starting from the first week of October.

He disclosed that the feder­ation would soon introduce an inter-district justify-your-inclusion exercise in order to raise a team for the Central region to take part in the national day games.

Moreover, he indicated that on December 26, the Central Region will host Bono and Ashanti regions in special championships.

The Oguaa Fetu Afahye at 60 Boxing Regional Championship is scheduled for September 6 at London Bridge, Cape Coast.

The event is under the auspices of the National Sports Authority and in partnership with the Cape Coast Youth Development Associ­ation with an official endorsement from the Oguaa Fetu Afahye Planning Committee.
