A woman in Ohio has won big after buying a scratch-off ticket at her usual place. Unable to believe her luck, the woman now plans to use the money to move.
Five Dollar Ticket Turns into $150K Payday
According to an official release from the Ohio Lottery, the lucky winner bought a $5 Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 25X ticket at her usual place in Akron. Upon scratching it, she realized that she had just won some $150,000 â the gameâs top prize.
At first, the woman couldnât believe her luck. Because of that, she consulted a friend to make sure she had correctly interpreted the ticket.
I sat there in disbelief. I couldnât process it until I got to the Canton office to make a claim.
Ohio lottery winner
After state and federal taxes totaling 28%, the lucky winner will receive $108,000. In an interview with the Ohio Lottery, she said she planned to use the money to buy a home.
For context, the winning ticket was sold at the Circle K station at 1526 S Hawkins Ave. in Akron.
According to the Ohio Lottery, there were five more top Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 25X prizes remaining as of June 12.
Ohio Resident Scored $2M Win, Opted for Annuity
The Akron womanâs win came not long after a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, won a mouth-watering $2 million prize. The life-changing sum was won from a $20 scratch-off ticket, according to the lottery.
Whatâs special about this win, however, is that the winner selected the annuity option, which is associated with a lower tax rate. As a result, they will receive a total of $1.4 million after taxes, or $80K a year.
Other Players Won Big
In the meantime, several players across the US grabbed various prizes from a number of games in different states. A woman from Georgia, for example, received a lottery ticket as a gift only to find herself some $2 million richer. In an interview with the lottery, the player said she was going to use the money to buy a home and pay for her tuition.
In Missouri, a scratch-off ticket buyer scooped up $100K, becoming one of the first big winners of the stateâs new JAWS game. According to lottery officials, the game still offered $6.7 million in prizes.
A Florida player, on the other hand, successfully guessed all five numbers for the June 11 Fantasy 5 drawing. Having beaten the overwhelming 1 in 376,992 odds, the player won $108K.
