Crystal Palace official site ā€“ 23 April 2024:

Oliver Glasner says that Rob Holding has sustained a fresh injury which will rule him out of Wednesday eveningā€™s game against Newcastle.

Holding returned to the first-team squad for the first time in 2024 against West Ham, but will be out of contention at Selhurst Park against Eddie Howeā€™s side.

ā€œUnfortunately Rob Holding is injured again,ā€ the manager confirmed at his pre-match press conference.

ā€œIt is tough because he is just back from injury. We donā€™t know what degree it is but it is something with his hamstring, so we donā€™t know how long it will take.

ā€œHe will definitely miss tomorrow and I think Saturday against Fulham. That is the bad news, but the other players are fit.ā€

Glasner says the rest of the squad will rally around Holding after what has been a frustrating season.

ā€œ[Frustrating] for all of us, especially him,ā€ the manager said of the situation. ā€œWhen you come back after a long injury and work so hard, and then see him smiling in training with the team and his first time in the squadā€¦

ā€œBut sometimes it happens, especially if you are not used to team training or your body isnā€™t used to it.

ā€œIt happened, and we have to accept and learn from it, so it doesnā€™t happen again.ā€

That makes it six Crystal Palace players in total who look sure to miss this Newcastle match:

Rob Holding ā€“ Hamstring

Sam Johnstone ā€“ Elbow

Cheick Doucoure ā€“ Calf

Marc Guehi ā€“ Knee

Jefferson Lerma ā€“ Thigh

Matheus Franca ā€“ Groin

It remains to be seen as well whether Oliver Glasner leaves any other players out.

Palace have three matches in very quick succession, playing Sunday ā€“ Wednesday ā€“ Saturday.

Crystal Palace having won 5-2 against West Ham on Sunday, then on Saturday set to face Fulham away.
