Olympic Breakdancer Raygun Confirms Retirement After Controversy

After causing debates with her unorthodox breakdancing performance at the sport’s debut during the 2024 Paris Olympics, Raygun has confirmed she will no longer compete. The athlete and dancer, legal name Rachael Gunn, revealed her decision on the Jimmy & Nath Show in her home country in her home country Australia.

“No!” exclaimed the 37-year-old when asked if she would return, per HipHopDX. “I still break, but I don’t compete. I’m not going to compete anymore, no.”

She continued to explain how she initially planned to continue but elaborated, “That seems a really difficult thing for me to do now, to approach a battle […] the level of scrutiny that will be there,” adding, “I still dance and I still break, but that’s in my living room with my partner.”

Her Olympic routine left the likes of Dr. Dre and much of the Hip-Hop community confused as she lost all three of her one-on-one contests during the Olympic breakdancing competition, by a total margin of 54-0.

“My personal opinion is that she should’ve never been on that stage,” expressed B-Boy Crazy Legs.

After the controversial dance performance, Raygun issued an apology for the entire ordeal asserting, “I am very sorry for the backlash that the community has experienced, but I can’t control how people react. Unfortunately, we just need some more resources in Australia for us to have a chance to be world champions.”
