Olympic Rugby Star Ilona Maher’s Sister Invented ‘Girl Dinner,’ and I’m So Obsessed With Their Family

The Maher girls have just done so much for the culture. You probably know rugby star Ilona Maher as one of the breakout stars of the 2024 Olympics, both for her strength on the pitch and her levelheaded clapbacks to body-shamers online, both of which have garnered her a significant social media fanbase.

“I’d like to thank my phone…”

But did you realize that her sister Olivia Maher, a.k.a. @liviemaher, is also a content creator, and coined the term “girl dinner” on TikTok? No, like, I’m so obsessed with them. Ever since writer Casey Lewis pointed it out in her newsletter, I’ve been deep in the Maher Sisters content pool, and the water feels great.

Olivia, Ilona, and their third sister Adrianna (mermaid-core names if I’ve ever heard ’em) are all in Paris for the Games, natch. Along with their parents, Olivia and Adrianna are decked out in head-to-toe custom gear with Ilona’s face all over it. Need to drink spicy margs with these ladies ASAP.

Haim, but without the instruments. And yes, they make fun of their shifting levels of fame:

Probably the best insight into the Maher family dynamic is this clip of Ilona Maher getting a huge round of applause from her family…who still make the exhausted athlete climb up dozens of stairs to get to them, while they sing the Rocky theme at her. Let’s hope Ilona got a Girl Feast afterward. (She loves carbs. Just like me fr.) The Kelces wish they had this rizz.

You might be wondering if Adrianna has a “thing,” and I’m thrilled to report that she does! Her thing is living in New York and working at a human rights organization, according to LinkedIn.

Obviously, I went searching for the Mahers’ parenting tips, and it would seem that the secret behind having close, happy daughters is “being supportive.” Who knew! “I have the honor of being the mother of three amazing children, but also have the extra you know, label of being an Olympian’s mother, [which] is very cool,” their mom, Mieneke Maher, told a local Vermont outlet ahead of the Games.

Anyway, whenever you gals want to adopt me, I’m around!
