Andre Onana provided a measured assessment of Manchester United’s fortunes following our 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town.

The Reds travelled to Portman Road full of optimism for new head coach Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge, but had to settle for a point against Kieran McKenna’s side.

It was not a performance without encouragement, as we showed signs of fulfilling Amorim’s promise of demonstrating an ‘idea’ through his style of play.

Naturally, Onana remained disappointed with the outcome in Suffolk, but retains belief that United will claim more of the wins they desire under Amorim’s leadership.

Asked how he felt after full-time by MUTV, Onana honestly professed: “Well, not so good, especially because of the result.

“We are Manchester United and it’s a lot of responsibility on us. We have to be able to win games. Unfortunately, we didn’t win today, so it’s difficult.

“I think we have to continue working hard. Me, the first one, I will take responsibility. Of course, I’m happy with these saves, but the most important thing is the victory of the team.

“When you don’t win, it’s difficult, so you have to move on, take responsibility and be positive.”

Onana made a couple of stunning stops to keep the Tractor Boys at bay – most notably denying Liam Delap, with a strong right arm blocking the striker’s close-range shot late in the first half.

“We are such a big club so there is no time to cry, we have to move on,” continued our no.24.
“Good days will come, better days will come. Like I always say, it will not rain forever here and the sun will shine.

“We know it’s just a matter of time. We have to continue working hard and pushing ourselves, stay together and stay positive, because in the end there are still a lot of games to go, a lot of competitions where we can fight.

“So we are all excited and very positive about the season.”

That response suggested a optimistic feeling about United’s new man in the dugout, Ruben Amorim, and Onana echoed that sentiment when asked about life under the new head coach so far.

“We are all happy to have him, a very positive coach,” said Onana.

“He played years ago, so he knows how to manage a dressing room. So we are all happy and very positive.”
