Opinion: This Month On Xbox Is Stacked, Including A Few First-Party Treats

A quiet summer? Not a chance!

We’ve now ticked over to the month of August, which at one time would have meant the final ‘quiet’ period before the gaming calendar really kicked into gear later in the year. In recent times, though, new releases seem to be coming thick and fast pretty much every month – and this one is absolutely no different! Personally, August 2025 is looking really appealing, with a bunch of big games that talk to my tastes in lots of ways.

Kicking things off for me this month is Ninja Theory’s new version of Hellblade 2. The narrative-focused title looked pretty bloody good last year – but its 30FPS lock did put me off, I must admit. That’s all going out the window on August 12th with the upcoming Enhanced Edition of the game – so this is now right up there on my August 2025 games list. Cracking!

Exactly one week after that we’ve got the free-to-play release of Delta Force; a big bombastic military FPS that I’ve had my eye on ever since it was announced. Battlefield 6 is now revealed and is looking stellar, but DF aims to compete with that sort of experience a couple months earlier – and at no cost to boot. Keep your eyes on this one, folks, Delta Force could be a real sleeper hit.

Then, August 20th brings the massively anticipated Xbox release of Black Myth: Wukong. This one took the gaming world by storm a year ago and did incredible numbers on PC and PS5, but sadly, Xbox players missed out amongst a whirlwind of controversy. In just a few weeks’ time we can see what the fuss is all about though, which is super duper exciting.

Finally, the end of the month is bringing a triple threat that’s going to make choosing which game to play an incredibly tough endeavour. August 26th is where Xbox and PlayStation truly cross paths with the releases of Gears of War: Reloaded and Helldivers 2, before Konami joins the party just two days later with it’s Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Honestly, who says the summer months have to be quiet?

As you can probably tell, then, I’m very excited about the month ahead on Xbox. There’s just a lot coming out that speaks to me personally, and while that’s subjective of course, I think we’re in for a cracking August on the platform.
