OpTic CEO H3CZ Questions Rumors of 8-Team Call of Duty League Major: ‘Not the way’

OpTic Gaming CEO Hector “H3CZ’ Rodriguez has called out the idea of the Call of Duty League hosting an eight-team Major, saying that it is not the solution to whatever problem the league is trying to solve.

On Monday, September 26, Esports.net reported that the league was considering making Major 2, which is expected to be held at DreamHack Birmingham, an eight-team affair rather than bringing all 12 teams along.

H3CZ Speaks Out on Event Rumors
The news was quickly picked up and heavily debated by the CDL community, and Rodriguez himself had something to say on the reports, in the following episode of the OpTic podcast.

“There has to be some real punishment to losers for losing, [but] I don’t think that this is the way, personally.” he said.

Methodz calls out “unfair advantage”
Former OpTic player and now content creator Anthony “Methodz” Zinni shared a similar sentiment. He said: “This gives an unfair advantage to the eight teams that do qualify. Let’s say one of the top teams gets upset and they don’t make this tournament, they’re potentially missing out on a ton of points…

“I’m severely against this. At the very least, I wish they’d do this in the US. I think the UK fans should get a full-blown Major because of how long it’s been.”

This would be the first time since the Modern Warfare 2019 season that the league would have LAN events without all 12 teams in attendance. During the MW19 year, franchises hosted “Home Stand” tournaments throughout the year, bringing seven other teams to their home city. In the following season, though, they adopted the current Major format, with online qualifiers for each tournament.

The only event in the calendar that usually has eight teams is the Championship event, which the top eight teams in the league qualify for based on CDL points they’ve earned across the season.

While nothing has been announced yet, we have been assured by various sources that the idea is still subject to change. Announcements should be expected soon.
