Osimhen’s goal not enough as Tammy Abraham’s late strike ensure that Napoli and Roma shares spoils
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli in their dramatic 2-2 draw against Roma at the Diego Maradona Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Napoli welcomed Roma to the Diego Maradona Stadium for their crunch Serie A tie. As usual, Nigeria international Osimhen led the assault for the Partenopeans. He was flanked by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left and Matteo Politano on the right.
The Partenopeans started the game well, creating chances and looking for openings in Roma’s defense. Osimhen was up and doing from the blast of the whistle, and he even threatened the keeper within the opening 20 minutes.
However, despite 17 attempts on goal in the first half, neither of the teams were able to break the deadlock. Nonetheless, the game sparked to life in the second half.
Paulo Dybala opened the scoring for Roma in the 59th minute, but Mathias Olivera equalized for the Partenopeans in the 65th minute. Napoli continued to pile the pressure, and they eventually got the result in the 81st minute after Kvaratskhelia was fouled in the box. Osimhen took charge of the penalty, and he sent a well-placed finish past Mile Svilar in Roma’s goal.
Unfortunately for Napoli, they could not preserve their lead, as Tammy Abraham scored in the 89th minute to ensure the game ended 2-2.
The result leaves Napoli in ninth place in the Serie A, nine points away from a Champions League qualification spot, with four games left.
