Ozzy Osbourne considered suicide in 2021 after botched neck surgery
Ozzy Osbourne once considered ending his own life due to the pain he suffered from his botched neck surgery.
âThe thought of not doing any gigs anymore â I went really into depression,â the late Prince of Darkness says in the upcoming Paramount + documentary âOzzy: No Escape From Now.â Per Us Weekly, he adds, âIâm on antidepressants now, actually. Because I was getting ready to off myself at some point.â
The late rocker â who passed away on July 22 at the age of 76 â underwent surgeries on his neck and spine after a 2019 fall, which displaced metal rods put in his body following a catastrophic 2003 ATV accident, and worsened his previous injuries.
Though the neck surgery made him consider suicide, he jokes that a fear of not actually completing the act kept him from attempting it.

âIâll go there in my head and I go, âWhat are you fâking talking about?â Because knowing me, Iâd half-do it and Iâd be half-dead,â he says. âI mean, I wouldnât die, you know? Thatâs my luck.â
Elsewhere in the documentary, wife Sharon, 72, says the neck surgery had triggered the rockerâs declining health â complicated further by his diagnosis of Parkinsonâs disease, which he revealed in 2020. Per The New York Post, Sharon says following the botched surgery, a separate doctor said the procedure had been too âaggressive.â
Surgical screws and metal plates were used, âwhich didnât need doing,â according to Sharon, and ultimately âcaused even more damage,â she says. She adds that a subsequent physician attempted to âpatch him up,â but the âmain damage was done.â
His son Jack Osbourne also weighs in with sobering thoughts. âThe Parkinsonâs is progressing, but the main problem is the nerve damage from the bad neck surgery,â he says. âThat fâking doctor stripped him of his abilities to move.â

Says the reality TV star, 39, âIt makes me so angry, because I felt like all this could have been avoided.â
The âOsbournesâ patriarch died in July, just weeks after the Black Sabbath frontman headlined a farewell concert for his iconic band.
âIt is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,â read a statement obtained by Page Six at the time.
âHe was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.â

Prior to Ozzyâs death, daughter Kelly Osbourne, 40, hit back at persistent rumors that her parents had a suicide pact.
âStop making articles or posts about how you think my parents are having a suicide pact,â she told her followers in July. âThat was bullsât my mom said to get attention one time. And my dadâs not dying. Stop.â
Sharon first made the claim back in 2007. âWe believe 100% in euthanasia,â she said in an interview at the time. â[We] have drawn up plans to go to the assisted suicide flat in Switzerland if we ever have an illness that affects our brains.â
She added in part, âIf Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimerâs [disease], thatâs it â weâd be off.â
âOzzy: No Escape From Nowâ is set for release on Paramount + on Oct. 7.
