Paramount+ Documentary Promises ‘The Uncensored Story of ‘80s Hair Metal’

Paramount+ documentary promises ‘the uncensored story of ‘80s hair metal,’ with interviews with bands like Poison, Skid Row, Ratt, and Guns N’ Roses.Paramount+ has announced a new documentary series, “Nöthin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ‘80s Hair Metal,” which will premiere on the service later this year.

The three-part series showcases the hard rock phenomenon of the 1980s and features interviews with musicians who lived the scene, including Bret Michaels (Poison), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme), Dave “The Snake” Sabo (Skid Row), and Riki Rachtman (MTV’s “Headbangers Ball”), as well as Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Steve-O (“Jackass”), and many more.

Directed by Jeff Tremaine of “Jackass” fame and based on the book Nöthin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the ‘80s Hard Rock Explosion by rock journalists Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock, the series promises a fresh and “shockingly candid” behind-the-scenes look at an iconic era in music history.Each episode showcases the blazing ambition and outright insanity that enthralled generations of music lovers and continues to influence culture in the modern day.

“This docuseries is a celebration of the most outrageous decade in rock n’ roll,” says Tremaine. “It’s my love letter to the ‘80s.”

The series is executive produced by Tremaine and Shanna Newton for Gorilla Flicks; Eric Wattenberg, Scott Lonker, and Will Nothacker for Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios; Erik Olsen; and Bruce Gillmer and Michael Maniaci for MTV Entertainment Studios. Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour also serve as co-executive producers.

“If you want to relive the explosive decade, this is as close as you’re gonna get,” said Ratt’s Stephen Pearcy of the book on which the docuseries is based. “All right here, right now.”

“From the streets to the Strip, the studio to the stage, this is an epic tale told by the people that lived it,” concluded Poison’s Bret Michaels. “It’s a backstage pass to the wildest and loudest party in rock history — you’ll feel like you were right there with us!”
