Parliament mourns loss of senior officials, MP in helicopter crash

Parliament has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of senior state officials, including ministers and a Member of Parliament, who were killed in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In a statement, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and the leadership of the House said they received confirmation of the ā€œtragic passingā€ with profound sadness.

ā€œParliament is deeply saddened by this news, and would want to, at this time, express its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and indeed the entire Republic,ā€ the statement read.

The deceased officials include Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and MP Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, among others.

The officials were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi when the aircraft went off radar and crashed.

ā€œMay the souls of our departed colleagues who have died in the service of our Republic rest in peace,ā€ Parliament’s statement concluded.
