Party Nails Releases Vibrant New Single “Same Old Song”
Singer-songwriter, artist, musician, and producer Party Nails, aka Elana Carroll, unveils her latest single, “Same Old Song,” via Eye Knee Records. Her upcoming third album, Pillow Talk, is slated to drop at the beginning of 2025.
Talking about “Same Old Song,” Party Nails explains, “For a while, I called this ‘Through The Trees’,’ because that image of looking through the trees for my childhood self was the impetus for writing the song. I could feel the feeling I was trying to write down the whole time, and the only way to stop living in the feeling was to write it down, accurately. This was a period of lockdown where my psyche was interacting with my idea of ‘home’ a lot. As I chipped away at what was then called ‘Through The Trees,’ it became clearer and clearer that I was talking to my younger self. I wasn’t angry with her, or sad with her, or warning her of anything. I was just documenting our co-existence. I had the lines ‘I’ve been drinking, I’ve been thinking, I’ve been crying, I’ve been dreaming, I’ve been fiending, I’m so tired’ in a songwriting notebook for a long time, waiting for a home. They were the perfect post-chorus. Anna Crane plays drums on it, which really elevates the energy for me.”
Carroll began her music career as a guitar-toting tween, ready, willing, and able to perform at any open mic. In 2015, she released her debut single, “Break,” via the famous blog Neon Gold. In 2017, she toured with PVRIS and Lights. In 2020, she wrote “Rocking’ on the Rag” for Loren Bouchard.
Party Nails’ music has been featured in films and on TV, including Glass, Girls, The L Word: Generation Q, Nancy Drew, and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, as well as Spotify playlists: Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, and Undercurrents. She operates a recording studio, Top Coat, in Los Angeles, where she records, produces and mixes for other artists as well as her own projects.
“Same Old Song” rolls out on dark, twangy pop tones, raw and edgy. Despite the darker colors, there’s a delicious upbeat buoyancy and optimism dripping from the harmonics. Party Nails’ vocals conjure up suggestions of Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morissette. It’s one of those voices that’s all polish and chrome yet nuanced by a myriad evocative timbres.
Blending tinctures of garage rock and indie pop, with “Same Old Song,” Party Nails offers listeners a lusciously contagious song.
