Patchy Mix silenced the Irish crowd when he choked out Conor McGregor’s protege with huge upset win
One of Patchy Mix’s most memorable wins in his career came against Conor McGregor’s protege, James Gallagher, at Bellator 270.
This past Saturday, it was officially announced after rumors circulated earlier this week, that former Bellator bantamweight champion Patchy Mix has signed with the UFC.
Despite having only just signed with the premier promotion, Mix will make his debut at UFC 316, stepping in for the injured Marlon Vera to take on Mario Bautista.
In the UFC 316 main event, Merab Dvalishvili defends his bantamweight title against Sean O’Malley in a rematch, and Mix has revealed who he wants to win the fight, with his eyes set on a future title fight.
Although ‘No Love’ has yet to fight in the UFC, he is already widely regarded as one of the best bantamweights in the world, and that began when he choked out Conor McGregor‘s protege.

And one of his most impressive came in enemy territory when he took on McGregor’s training partner, James Gallagher, in Dublin at Bellator 270.
For several years, Gallagher was being labeled as ‘the next Conor McGregor’, not only because of his ties to ‘The Notorious’, but because of his fight style and eccentric personality.
After four impressive wins in a row, ‘The Strabanimal’ was given a fight against Mix at Bellator 270 in Dublin in 2021. A win for Gallagher would’ve likely seen him go on to challenge for the title.
However, Mix came into enemy territory and pulled off the upset win when he choked out Gallagher in the third round in front of his Irish fans.
The first two rounds were extremely closely contested and in round two, Gallagher had Mix in a guillotine of his own, almost causing a tap.
Despite that, less than a minute into the final round, Mix jumped a guillotine on Gallagher, subsequently dragging him to the ground and choking him out as the Irish fans booed him.
Mix could be fast tracked to UFC title fightAlthough the bantamweight division is one of the deepest and strongest in the UFC, Mix could find himself getting fast tracked to a title shot, especially with an impressive win over Bautista in Newark.
Even before joining the premier promotion, many fans regarded Mix as the best bantamweight in the world, and he himself historically claimed that he would finish ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley within two rounds if they ever fought.
With Mix’s UFC debut being one of the most highly anticipated in recent memory, he will be hoping for a fairytale result on June 7, looking to immediately crack the top 10 of the rankings.
