Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany inspired by UFC legend Ronda Rousey after following in her footsteps with iconic photoshoot

Britanny Mahomes has named former UFC champion Ronda Rousey on a three-person list of athletes who have inspired her.

Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, which will see her quarterback husband Patrick star for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mrs Mahomes posed for Sports Illustrated’s iconic swimsuit edition.

The 28-year-old couldn’t have been happier about featuring in the 60th-anniversary edition of the magazine, which is due to be released in May.

“I never in my wildest dreams thought this would happen,” Mahomes said.

“I’m so thankful and honoured and so excited to be here with this team.”

“I’m truly just so humbled and still in disbelief. As a girl from Tyler, Texas, who only really knew sports, never in a million years did I think I’d be in [the SI Swimsuit Issue]. I’m just so grateful for this opportunity.”

Brittany had a brief career as a footballer, first at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she scored 31 career goals, the second-most in program history and then headed to Icelandic club UMF Afturelding.

So, she was delighted to be following in the footsteps of other American athletes, who have also featured in the popular magazine.

She added: “I think of all the incredible athletes I’ve grown up watching over the years.

“Athletes like Alex Morgan, Sue Bird and Ronda Rousey have all graced the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

“Just seeing elite athletes go out of their comfort zone [and pose for the magazine] is so inspiring!”

MMA icon Rousey almost broke the internet when she graced the magazine’s cover in nothing but body paint in 2016.

Patrick Mahomes picks his all-time Fantasy team including two New England legends

Rousey’s appearance in SI allowed her to remain a superstar despite walking away from fighting in 2016 after suffering back-to-back knockout defeats to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.

Following a successful stint with the WWE, ‘Rowdy’ has recently been heavily linked with a return to MMA – but UFC CEO Dana White has publicly denied he is planning her comeback bout.

Mahomes, like many other Rousey fans, will be hoping White is secretly plotting her return after years of speculation about whether she still has a future in the sport that made her famous.

And maybe she will get the chance to ask him in Vegas on Sunday where the Super Bowl will take place given White and the UFC are based in Sin City and Mahomes will be at the Allegiant Stadium to cheer on the Chiefs.
