Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed that there is indeed a script for a Peaky Blinders movie. Knight is also working on a Star Wars movie, but he’s almost done with the movie script for his British gangster series.
In a conversation with the Radio Times, Knight confirms that he’s close to wrapping up the script and wants to start production soon. “I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” he said. Knight added a bit about his writing process and mentioned that the idea is to film some time in the middle of this year.
“I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me,” Knight said. “You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good–but where did it come from?”
Cillian Murphy who played Thomas Shelby for the show’s 10-year run, said he’d return if there was a script, saying he “always thought that if there’s more story to tell.” The show has been turned into a few games–including a VR version–and even a ballet called The Redemption of Thomas Shelby.
The film is expected to be set during World War II, and Knight has said that it will be “the same but different” to the series, telling viewers to “expect the unexpected.”
