A tragic ATV accident Friday night has left Penn State wide receiver Julian Fleming seriously injured and claimed the life of 23-year-old Alyssa Boyd, his girlfriend and passenger at the time of the crash.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred around 8:13 p.m. on Painter Lick Lane in Bradford County. Investigators say the ATV, operated by Fleming, collided with a deer that suddenly entered the roadway while traveling north. Neither Fleming nor Boyd was wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash.
Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Fleming, 24, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Guthrie Troy Community Hospital for treatment.
Fleming, rose to national prominence as a record-setting wide receiver at Southern Columbia High School. Widely regarded as one of the top recruits in the country, he began his college football career at Ohio State before transferring to Penn State ahead of the 2023 season.
The local community, shaken by the tragedy, is mourning the loss of Boyd and rallying in support of Fleming and both families affected by the crash.
Authorities urge ATV riders to always wear proper safety equipment and exercise caution, especially when traveling in areas with active wildlife.
