PGA Championship live golf scores, results, highlights from Sunday’s Round 4 leaderboard
Xander Schauffele went into the final day of the 2024 PGA Championship looking to earn his first major win. He built a multi-shot lead on multiple occasions, but golf fans everywhere were waiting for him to have the one critical mistake that has often dogged him during his career at major events.
This time, the mistake never came. Schauffele sunk a clutch birdie putt on the 18th and final hole of the day to break a tie atop the leaderboard with Bryson DeChambeau.
The ball very nearly lipped out, but it spun around the hole and fell in, finally rewarding Schauffele, who had 12 top-10 major finishes in his career without a victory.
Schauffele faced plenty of competition down the stretch from DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland, who each had hot stretches to close their rounds. DeChambeau himself hit a clutch putt on the 18th to put pressure on Schauffele on his final two holes, but he came up just short of earning a key major victory for LIV Golf.
Schauffele’s performance moved him up to No. 2 overall in the FedEx Cup standings behind only World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler. And the World No. 3 golfer’s 21 under par mark for the tournament was the best 72-hole score of all time at a major

6:53 p.m. â Xander Schauffele makes his birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the PGA Championship. The putt nearly lipped out, but it finally fell in to give him his first career major win.

â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20246:51 p.m. â Schauffele’s chip is right on line and checks up just before the hole. He now has a putt of roughly five feet to win the title.
6:50 p.m. â Collin Morikawa is out of contention, but he’s still playing with Schauffele. He just hit his third shot, a chip that was on line toward the hole but spun back a bit. Schauffele’s critical third shot is upcoming.
6:46 p.m. â Schauffele makes good contact despite his awkward stance. He doesn’t quite hit the green, but with a good pitch, he can position himself for a birdie chance and, potentially, his first career major win.
6:40 p.m. â Schauffele’s tee shot at the 18th ends up in a difficult spot. It’s not far into the right rough, but it’s pressed up against the bunker. He will need to stand in the bunker to hit the ball. That will create some stance issues as the ball will likely be well above his feet.
6:35 p.m. â Schauffele’s chip from off the green is solid, but doesn’t quite have the legs to get to the hole. He’s able to tap in for par. He now needs to birdie the 18th to avoid a playoff against DeChambeau.
6:31 p.m. â Schauffele needs to birdie one of his last two holes to win in regulation. His second shot at 17 out of the bunker misses the green just left. He will need to get up and down for par to stay tied for first (barring a miraculous birdie chip-in from off the green).
6:28 p.m. â It’s down to a two-horse race. Hovland misses his birdie putt just to the left and he will finish two strokes behind DeChambeau after missing his short par putt.
6:27 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau sinks his birdie putt! It had just enough legs to get to the hole and trundle over the edge. That ties him for first place with Schauffele.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20246:26 p.m. â Schauffele catches a bad break on 17, failing to clear the bunker off the tee. His second shot will be critical in determining what he can do on the penultimate hole.
6:24 p.m. â Hovland and DeChambeau both have makeable birdie putts, but they aren’t gimmes. If neither can make their putts, Schauffele just needs to play the last two holes at even par or better to win.
6:22 p.m. â Schauffele remains steady. He gets a long birdie putt just a few feet from the hole to log an easy par on the 16th. He remains one shot ahead of DeChambeau and Hovland as each looks to birdie the final hole.
6:19 p.m. â Hovland’s second shot on 18 leaks well right and comes up “almost 40 yards short of the green,” in the estimation of CBS’ Jim Nantz. DeChambeau also misses the green, but his curves just left of the green. He will look to get up and down for birdie from his location.
6:16 p.m. â Robert MacIntyre just made the second eagle of the day on the Par 5 18th. Will either Hovland or DeChambeau be able to repeat his feat to put some pressure on Schauffle?
6:07 p.m. â DeChambeau comes up just short on his birdie putt at 17. Hovland misses his just to the left. They remain one shot back of Schauffele as they head to the Par 5 18th.
6:02 p.m. â Hovland got his second shot on 17 in range for a potential birdie. DeChambeau hits the green as well, but he’s a bit further away than his playing partner. Each will have a putt to tie Schauffele at 20 under for the tournament.
5:53 p.m. â Hovland and DeChambeau are each one stroke back of Schauffele as they approach their final two holes. Provided that Schauffele doesn’t make any major mistakes, the PGA Championship appears to be his to lose.
5:50 p.m. â DeChambeau capitalizes on his lucky stroke. He gets his approach shot within a few feet of the hole and should have a chance to get within one if he can make an easy birdie.
Bryson DeChambeau just won’t let up! #PGAChamp pic.twitter.com/FZs8y04Ygw
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20245:43 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau got a stroke of luck after his tee shot on 16 hooked well left. It appeared to hit a tree off to the side and bounced back into the fairway.
He’s still not hitting the ball particularly well, but that could be enough to spark him down the stretch.
5:39 p.m. â Hovland can’t convert a birdie opportunity of his own. Things are tilting more and more toward Schauffele with the final group having six holes to play.
5:37 p.m. â Schauffele set himself up with a quality birdie look on 12. He drains it to re-take a one shot lead over Hovland.
5:36 p.m. â DeChambeau is starting to run into some trouble, hitting wayward shots with each of his first two strokes at 15. He can still save par, but he’s running out of holes to catch Schauffele and Hovland.
5:28 p.m. â In a matter of minutes, DeChambeau came up with a key par save on the 14th, Hovland missed a birdie chance on the 14th to settle for par and Schauffele hit his approach shot on 12 near the hole to give him a birdie chance. The advantage remains with Schauffele, who has seven holes left to complete compared to Hovland and DeChambeau’s four.
5:20 p.m. â DeChambeau makes his birdie putt. He will stay within one of the lead, which is shared by Hovland and Schauffele after the latter’s birdie on 11.
5:18 p.m. â Hovland makes his third birdie in the last four holes to give himself a momentary lead on Xander Schauffele. DeChambeau will look to pull within one of his playing partner shortly.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20245:13 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau opted not to take aim at the driveable Par 4 13th off the tee to avoid hitting it in the water. He got it to the green in regulation though and is set up with a quality birdie attempt. Hovland and Schauffele have birdie looks on their holes as well, so the top of the leaderboard is presently volatile.
5:10 p.m. â Xander Schauffele had a short putt to save par. It lips out. He drops a shot, and suddenly, his two-shot lead is gone.
5:04 p.m. â Viktor Hovland birdies the 12th, and all of a sudden, he’s one shot back of Schauffele, whose third shot on 10 just trickled off the green. Things are tightening up now on the back nine.
5:01 p.m. â Schauffele may be in his first spot of trouble in a while. He hit the bunker on 10 off the tee and followed that up with a strike into the rough near the green. He still has time to scramble on the Par 5 hole, but failing to birdie that hole would be a tough pill to swallow.
4:48 p.m. â Schauffele birdies the final hole of his back nine. He takes a two-stroke lead to the Par 5 10th with a chance to build on his advantage over Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland.
4:46 p.m. â Morikawa made par on every front-nine hole. He didn’t make a putt longer than three feet, three inches. He could still get hot and challenge Schauffele, but he’s running out of time and is three strokes back with an ice-cold putter.
4:40 p.m. â Viktor Hovland drains a birdie putt after a nice pitch out of the rough behind the hole. He and DeChambeau are now just one stroke back of Schauffele.
4:39 p.m. â DeChambeau’s eagle putt just misses, but he will have a chance at a birdie. Speaking of birdies, Justin Rose has three in a row. He’s back to within three shots of the lead and is starting to get hot at a good time.
4:35 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau hit the green in two at the Par 5 10th. That will give him an eagle putt. If he makes it, he will tie Schauffele atop the leaderboard. If not, he should be positioned for a short birdie attempt.

â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20244:28 p.m. â Scottie Scheffler makes par at the 18th to finish the tournament at 13 under. Considering his Friday arrest, his performance â and potential top-10 finish â is nothing short of remarkable.
Also worth noting: Scheffler is tied with Billy Horschel as the clubhouse leader at 13 under. That seems likely to change soon, but perhaps that will convince Scheffler to hang around in case an unthinkable collapse happens with all the players atop the leaderboard.
4:26 p.m. â DeChambeau drains the putt to finish the front nine at 3 under. He is two shots off the lead but is heading to another Par 5. Meanwhile, Shane Lowry three-putted the eighth hole to fall four back, as it doesn’t look like his excellent putting performance from Saturday carried over.
4:25 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland have both endured recent struggles with their approach shots but have largely managed to stay out of trouble. That may change with if DeChambeau can’t drain a makeable par putt to stay two strokes behind Schauffele.
4:24 p.m. â Justin Rose just hit the green in two on the Par 5 10th hole. He will have a chance at an eagle that could get him back into the top five.
4:21 p.m. â Schauffele manages to make a birdie on seven after a solid bunker shot. Morikawa follows that up with a miss just outside the hole to the left. He cleans up for par, but he’s now three shots behind Schauffele, who is up two once again.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20244:13 p.m. â Schauffele and Morikawa both landed in the greenside bunker at the Par 5. Each will have to get up and down to make par â unless one can land a particularly great bunker shot nearby the hole for a birdie chance.
4:11 p.m. â Neither Bryson DeChambeau nor Shane Lowry were able to take advantage of the Par 5 seventh hole, but both saved par after errant second shots got them out of position. Still, they may lose ground to the leaders if Schauffele and Morikawa can find success on it.
4:03 p.m. â Lee Hodges is making a push toward the top of the leaderboard. He’s 4 under through nine holes despite having battled a kidney stone earlier in the week. He may not have the juice needed to overtake Schauffele, but he’s at least within striking distance if the leaders falter.
4 p.m. â Xander Schauffele just made a key putt at No. 5 to save par. He came up short on his birdie effort from off the green, so it was a critical make. Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland made a long putt to get within one shot of the lead. It was his third consecutive birdie.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20243:44 p.m. â Any hope of a late push from Rory McIlroy was erased after he hit his second shot on 13 into the water. He drops a shot and is currently sitting at 10 under for the tournament.
3:43 p.m. â Schauffele couldn’t quite put enough on his birdie attempt on five to hole it. He settles for a tap-in par, but his lead has dwindled to one stroke over Bryson DeChambeau.
3:40 p.m. â Not to be forgotten, Scottie Scheffler has moved into seventh place with a 12 under score. He made his sixth birdie of the day to climb back into the top 10 after a rough Saturday.
3:39 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau sinks a putt from off the green on the sixth hole. That’s his third birdie of the day and puts him one shot back of Xander Schauffele, who has a good look at birdie on the fifth hole.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20243:35 p.m. â Theegala double-crossed himself off the tee at No. 5. He did his best to bounce back, but he bogeyed the hole. That moves him down to 13 under and 1 over for the day.
3:32 p.m. â Schauffele has extended his lead to two shots once again. He birdies the fourth hole and follows it up with a solid drive on the fifth. He failed to close out a win at the Wells Fargo after building a final-round lead over Rory McIlroy, so it is worth wondering whether he will have more success against this crowded field.
3:23 p.m. â Viktor Hovland has his first birdie of the day on the fifth hole. He’s now two shots off Schauffele’s lead. DeChambeau moves to one shot off the lead after also making birdie on the fifth hole.
3:16 p.m. â Shane Lowry got both lucky (and unlucky) on his second shot at the fourth hole. He hit a chip onto the green and it skittered toward the hole and off the stick in the middle of the hole. It landed just inches outside the hole, but had it not hit the stick, it likely would have gone into the rough.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 2024So, while Lowry could have made a game-tying eagle, he’ll be happy to settle for a tap-in birdie that catapults him into second place.
3:13 p.m. â Schauffele sees a makeable birdie putt on the third hole lip out. He’ll settle for par, and his lead over Morikawa will remain at one stroke.
3:07 p.m. â Shane Lowry sinks a birdie on the Par 3 third hole. That puts him two shots off the lead, but Schauffele landed his tee shot at No. 3 just a few feet from the hole. Thus, he may continue to extend his lead.
3:03 p.m. â Both Schauffele and Morikawa escape trouble on the second hole. They scramble for par after missing their tee shots and will remain atop the leaderboard Sunday.
2:57 p.m. â For those wondering, Scottie Scheffler is now down to 10 under par for the PGA Championship after making a birdie on the 12th hole. He may take aim at a top-10 finish if he can get hot over his final six holes.
2:54 p.m. â Theegala three-putts the second hole after his long birdie on the first. That puts him back to even for the day, but he is now two shots off Schauffele’s lead.
2:52 p.m. â Both Schauffele and Morikawa missed the fairway on the second hole left. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau hit the green on his first shot on the Par 3 third hole while Sahith Theegala is facing a difficult two-putt on the second hole. Things are happening fast and furious atop the leaderboard at Valhalla.
2:47 p.m. â Morikawa comes up just short on his long birdie putt on the first hole. Schauffele follows his effort by draining a 27-foot putt to birdie the hole and take a one-shot lead over Morikawa and Theegala.
Xander Schauffele takes the top spot with this birdie from 27 ft!#PGAChamp pic.twitter.com/JjlgLtX6BC
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20242:42 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau continues to be a flag-hunter. He landed his approach shot just over the flag at the second hole and is now set up with a short birdie putt. He missed his birdie chance on the first hole, but perhaps he will bounce back in this spot.
2:39 p.m. â Sahith Theegala is off to a strong start. He drained a long birdie putt on the first hole to put himself into a first-place tie with Schauffele and Morikawa. Game on.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20242:36 p.m. â Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, the final pairing of the day, has teed off at Valhalla. Schauffele’s first shot landed in the fairway but rolled just into the first cut of the rough. Morikawa’s opening shot split the fairway, setting him up for a straightforward shot toward the green.
2:29 p.m. â Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland and Bryson DeChambeau all made par on the first hole. DeChambeau missed a makeable birdie putt, however, so it will be interesting to see if that impacts his confidence moving forward.
2:19 p.m. â Justin Thomas makes his first birdie of the day in impressive fashion. He chips in from off the green at the third hole to get himself to 11 under. That puts the Louisville-raised golfer four shots off the lead in his hometown.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20242:18 p.m. â Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland have teed off. They are the third-to-last group of the day at Valhalla. Both hit their drives squarely and landed them in the middle of the fairway. A good start for the duo, who are each two shots off the shared lead of Schauffele and Morikawa.
2:08 p.m. â Lee Hodges came into his round five shots off the lead. He birdies his first hole, bringing himself to 11 under and one step closer to contending at Valhalla.
2:03 p.m. â Brooks Koepka finishes the 2024 PGA Championship with a respectable 9 under score. That won’t be enough for him to defend his title and win his fourth Wanamaker Cup.
1:55 p.m. â Braden Shattuck is officially the low PGA Tour professional at the PGA Championship. He closed his tournament with a 74 to finish 1 under for the tournament. That was seven strokes better than Jeremy Wells, the only other PGA pro to make the cut.
1:54 p.m. â Shanwe Lowry and Viktor Hovland are both atop the PGA Championship leaderboard at 13 under. They greeted each other warmly as each prepares for his early afternoon tee time.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 20241:31 p.m. â Keegan Bradley birdied his first hole Sunday. That moved him to 10 under, making him the first player to move to double-digits under par and get himself within striking distance of the tournament leaders.
1:04 p.m. â It doesn’t seem like any miracle run is in store for Scottie Scheffler at Valhalla. He is 1 over through three holes and has slipped to nine shots off the lead. That he was able to even play the weekend after his Friday morning arrest was incredible, but his run of five consecutive top-two finishes with four total wins appears unlikely to continue.
12:53 p.m. â An interesting report from Jeff Darlington on ESPN’s PGA Championship broadcast: Sahith Theegala is dealing with an illness and has been sick throughout the week. He also is dealing with a rib injury from two weeks ago that stems from “sitting too aggressively in a golf cart.”
Will either of those maladies impact Theegala on Sunday, or will he have his own Michael Jordan flu game moment? Time will tell, as he’s set to tee off at 2:25 p.m.
12:40 p.m. â Through 12 holes, Brooks Koepka is at 5 under for the day and 9 under for the tournament. He is logging one of the best rounds of the day which will only make him rue his Saturday 74 that much more.
12:38 p.m. â From earlier, Alejandro Tosti managed to drive the green on the 13th hole at Valhalla. Impressively, he was able to do it and create a highlight-reel play for himself despite being well off the lead.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 202412:29 p.m. â Jordan Smith finished his day with the best round so far. He shot 7 under to move into a tie for 26th at the tournament. His score is a harbinger of good scoring to come for the leaders â provided that the weather doesn’t change too much and each brings his best form in Round 4.
12:16 p.m. â Scottie Scheffler has officially teed off. His first shot leaked right off the tee and landed in the rough. Tough start for the World No. 1, but one that he can certainly overcome.
12:01 p.m. â Scottie Scheffler will tee off at 12:15 p.m. He shot a 73 on Saturday, his first over-par round of the year, so he will look to bounce back from that. He is eight shots off the lead, so a victory seems unlikely, but never say never with the world’s No. 1 golfer.
11:45 a.m. â Brooks Koepka hit an approach shot that might have been too good. His well-aimed shot hit the flagstick and nearly spun off the green and into the bunker.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 202411:22 a.m. â How good are scoring conditions Sunday? This eagle hole-out by Jordan Smith should tell golf fans everything they need to go about how Valhalla is playing in the tournament’s final round.
â PGA Championship (@PGAChampionship) May 19, 202411:12 a.m. â Brooks Koepka is bouncing back after a third-round 74. The reigning PGA Championship winner has birdied three of his first six holes to move to 7 under for the tournament. He is unlikely to capture a fourth title at his favorite major, but he is tracking toward a top-20 finish if he continues to perform well in the early stages of Sunday’s action.
11:05 a.m. â The morning wave of golfers is out at the PGA Championship, and while none will have a chance to win the major title, they are still jockeying for position on a tightly packed leaderboard. Among the biggest movers? Tommy Fleetwood is 4 under through eight holes while Jordan Smith’s 6-under mark is the best round on the course.
Those scores indicate the top performers Sunday will be able to go low, so that leaves the path to the Wanamaker Trophy wide-open for the 15 players within five shots of the lead.
