Pittman’s Pocket: Top HBCU Prospects in Week 3
There was some impressive FBS play from HBCUs this past week, with standout performances from teams like Morgan State and North Carolina Central, who both kept their games competitive until the final whistle.
Bryan Stukes, #25 Cornerback from Morgan State, had a stellar showing with 8 tackles (6 solo), 1 pass deflection, and 1 interception. Sophomore standout Ja’son Prevard also made a highlight-reel interception just before halftime. Morgan State’s front seven made their presence known against the Ohio Bobcats, with Senior Elijah Williams recording 5 tackles, 1 sack, and a tackle for loss, while Lance Byndon added 2 sacks and 2 tackles for loss. It was a dominant performance from their defense.
For North Carolina Central, Malcolm Reed and Defensive Back Kole Jones rose to the occasion against Mack Brown’s Tar Heels, keeping the game close. At one point, they were only down 10-17 late in the third quarter.
Bethune-Cookman’s Darnell Dead made an impact with a big performance against USF and an even bigger one against Western Michigan, where he returned two special teams plays.
Meanwhile, South Carolina State’s Eric Phoenix and the Bulldogs fought hard but couldn’t overcome the Georgia Southern Eagles.
