It was a day to forget for Gurney, with the world no.25 beaten in the second round by George Killington.
‘Superchin’ has now only gone beyond the last 64 at one of the first three Players Championship tournaments of the year.
Following his loss to Killington, Gurney criticised the playing conditions in Rosmalen.

“The venue is freezing, and no consideration of the location for players. A bad decision on the PDC’s behalf and the players deserve better!!!”
The Autotron will once again host Pro Tour action on Tuesday with Players Championship 4 still to come at the venue.
Players will also return to the arena in April for two more floor events before it hosts the Dutch Darts Championship on the Euro Tour the following month.
Despite Gurney’s complaints, it was a day to remember for Chris Dobey.
‘Hollywood’ claimed his first Pro Tour event victory of the year by beating Jelle Klaasen 8-4 in the final.

Gerwyn Price withdrew from an event during a match in February last year over the ‘less than amateur’ conditions.
The Iceman later fumed on social media after competing in Wigan on the Pro Tour.
He wrote on Instagram at the time: “Travel all the way to Wigan to play in a professional game and we have to play in less than amateur conditions.
“Never have I ever given a game up. Well that’s me out of tomorrow as well.
“Gutted because my game was really good today and I rely on these events so much.”
