Post Malone Teams With Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam for Country Pivot at Stagecoach
Covers-filled set also features Sara Evans as Malone set the foundation for his long-teased new era at the California country music festival
Posty Goes Country, the long-awaited pivot from Post Malone, officially kicked off as the musician took the stage at Stagecoach 2024. The California country music festival welcomed the pop hitmaker on Saturday night for a set full of surprise covers.
Post Malone had a bevy of guests on tap, including Brad Paisley, who performed his own âIâm Gonna Miss Herâ along with Vince Gillâs âOne More Last Chanceâ and a set-closing rendition of Alan Jacksonâs âChattahoochee.â
Earlier in the set, Dwight Yoakam appeared alongside Malone to perform his âLittle Waysâ with the singer, and Sara Evans dropped by to sing her âSuds in the Bucket.â On his own, Malone delivered covers of Tyler Childers (a set-opening âWhitehouse Roadâ), Tim McGraw (âDonât Take the Girlâ), Randy Travis (âThree Wooden Crossesâ), George Strait (âCheck Yes or Noâ) the late Toby Keith (âWhoâs Your Daddy?â) and more.
Malone did not perform any of his own originals during the Posty Goes Country set.
Ahead of the festival, Malone teased his forthcoming collaboration with Morgan Wallen, although the latter did not show up during Maloneâs set. (Maybe Malone will show up during Wallenâs Sunday night headlining gig at Stagecoach?)
The duoâs first snippet arrived in March, with the second coming in hot on the eve of Stagecoachâs opening night. âIt ainât like I can make this kind of mess all by myself/Donât act like you ainât helped me pull that bottle off the shelf/Been deep in every weekend, if you couldnât tell,â Malone sings in the upbeat country chorus. âThey say teamwork makes the dream work/Hell, I had some help.â
In 2022, Malone told Howard Stern: âTo be honest, thereâs nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album and putting it on fucking YouTube. Maybe Iâll face some repercussions afterward from the label and shit, but thereâs nothing stopping me from doing that. Iâm allowed to do that.â

The musician tested the waters of the genre with a few appearances alongside prominent country artists at events like the CMA Awards, as well as covers of country classics like Hank Williamsâ âHonky Tonk Blues.â Malone also suited up for an appearance on âLeviiâs Jeans,â a deep cut on BeyoncĂ©âs new country-flipping album Cowboy Carter.
Something tells us his label canât possibly be too upset about any of this.
