Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “Wish Health and Healing” for Kate Middleton Amid Cancer Diagnosis

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are thinking of their sister-in-law from afar.

Hours after the Princess of Wales shared the news that she had been diagnosed with cancer, the couple offered a statement of support. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” a representative for the couple shared with Vogue.

The statement echoes the one made by Middleton herself. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said of her diagnosis. “We hope that you’ll understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment.”

Meanwhile, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson says that King Charles III is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did.” The King is also undergoing treatment for cancer and has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.”

Yet it was perhaps British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who released the strongest-worded statement of support, criticizing certain aspects of the media coverage and social media conversation in the process. “She has shown tremendous bravery with her statement today. In recent weeks she has been subjected to intense scrutiny and has been unfairly treated by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media,” he wrote. “When it comes to matters of health, like everyone else, she must be afforded the privacy to focus on her treatment and be with her loving family.”

For now, the princess is expected to take a break from public life for a significant amount of time.
