Prince Harry “Immensely Grateful” as Founding Invictus Games CEO Steps Down
Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, for which he was recently honored with a special ESPY Award, is undergoing a staffing major change as founding CEO Dominic Reid announced he’ll step down from his role on Friday.
In a statement published on the foundation’s website, Reid said that it “is the time for someone new to take this vital movement forward into its second vigorous decade.” Reid has been CEO of the veteran and military personnel-focused athletic competition since its inception 10 years ago. The organization also offers year-round programming focused on mental health and fitness for military personnel and their loved ones.
In the same statement, Harry thanked Reid, whom he called his friend.
“Ten years on from the inception of the Invictus Games, we proudly stand as a community of 23 nations spanning every continent, fulfilling our mission of saving and changing lives,” Harry said. “I am immensely grateful to my friend Dominic, whose dedication and leadership transformed the Invictus Games from an ambitious idea to an internationally recognized movement.”
He went on to commend Reid for his “decade of relentless service” to the organization.
“What a journey it has been, and how fortunate we are to work with such an incredible community of people,” he said. “We pray we don’t need the Games for another ten years, but thanks to you, the team, and our future CEO, we will be ready.”
Reid called working with Prince Harry and the organization an honor, and stressed the importance of Invictus and groups like it. “The unstable geopolitical landscape we now inhabit makes it vital that our work continues well into the future, as more and more service personnel are wounded every day,” he said.
The next Invictus Games, the organization’s first winter games, are set to take place in Whistler and Vancouver in February 2025.
