The NFL offseason has arrived for everyone other than the Super Bowl participants, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

In a lot of ways, that’s a bummer for those on a break, especially the win-right-now teams whose hopes of capturing championship glory were officially dashed.

There is, however, at least one fun item on the docket for the non-Super-Bowl-bound bunch: The chance to participate in the upcoming Pro Bowl Games.

This celebration of football stars spans multiple days and features a skills showdown and the best flag football game you’ll ever see. Let’s lay out the rosters before highlighting players from each conference who should’ve been selected to participate but were snubbed instead.

Josh Allen, Quarterback (Buffalo Bills)

An MVP finalist, Allen was nothing short of a statistical juggernaut this season. He was a top-five passer by yardage (4,306, fourth) and touchdowns (29, tied for fifth), plus an absurdly effective rusher, turning his 111 carries into 524 yards and a whopping 15 touchdowns.

His interception count climbed to a career-high 18 this season, but that’s about the only wart you’ll find on his stat sheet. He routinely put jaw-dropping numbers in the box score and clearly produced at a Pro Bowl level.

L’Jarius Sneed, Cornerback (Kansas City Chiefs)

Before Sneed was busy making heroic plays in the AFC Championship, he showcased some of the best cornerback-ing of anyone this season. The 6’1″, 192-pounder blanketed the very best of the best pass-catchers in this league, and while his traditional numbers may not leap off the page (60 tackles, two interceptions), his advanced metrics were mind-boggling.

“He’s allowed 5-plus catches and 50-plus yards in a game just twice this season, per Next Gen Stats, and he’s given up ZERO touchdowns in 462 coverage snaps,” NFL.com’s Kevin Patra wrote. “His -29.7 target EPA is third-best among all CBs in 2023.”

Brandon Aiyuk, Wide Receiver (San Francisco 49ers)

If the 49ers go on to win the Super Bowl—an opportunity Aiyuk played a massive role in creating—his momentum-shifting miracle grab in the NFC Championship will be seen on highlight reels in perpetuity.

UNREAL.

That catch can’t make Aiyuk’s Pro Bowl case, of course, so let’s dig into that part of things. The former first-round pick turned 105 targets into 75 receptions for 1,342 yards (seventh) and seven touchdowns (tied for 18th). An absurd 61 of his 75 catches resulted in first downs, and his average reception spanned a career-high 17.9 yards.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Wide Receiver (Detroit Lions)

Clearly, the NFC was loaded with high-caliber receivers this season, as it’s hard to argue against any of the actual selections at the position: CeeDee Lamb, Mike Evans, A.J. Brown and Puka Nacua. Saying that, though, it might be even harder to build a credible case for why St. Brown wasn’t selected, since he was named as an All-Pro first-teamer.

He was top five in most relevant receiving categories, including catches (119, tied for second), yards (1,515, third) and touchdowns (10, tied for fourth). He also produced a league-leading nine contests with 100-plus receiving yards.
