Daniel Craig is so sweaty in the trailer for Queer that it would make Troye Sivan blush. Just constant shine. The trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s new film dropped on October 29, and you could focus on the teasing of explicit gay scenes, or how this age gap will make Call Me by Your Name fearers blanche, or how it looks beautiful. But all we can think about is how sweaty Craig looks next to his extremely matte co-star Drew Starkey. We have to assume this is intentional — reports from the festival circuit noted that this film is a lot druggier than the trailer lets on — in order to show some innate difference between daddy and twink. The daddy is affected by the heat of Mexico City while the twink effortlessly stays dry. But still: How did they get him that sweaty? Did they spray him down before each take? Is it perma-sweat made out of silica gel?
The film stars Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, and Omar Apollo alongside Craig and Starkey, with a screenplay by Guadagnino’s Challengers collaborator Justin Kuritzkes. Based on the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs, the film follows its lead man, Lee, through Mexico City as he gets bewitched by Allerton — based on Burroughs’s real-life fascination with a man named Adelbert Lewis Marker. Also, there’s a lot of heroin. The film will have a limited release this November. Make sure to bring a rag — it’s getting hot and heavy.
