Quinta Brunson’s Emmys 2024 Dress Was Supposed to Be Wrinkled

When Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson walked the Los Angeles ceremony’s gray carpet in a retro-inspired candy-pink, tea-length Dior creation on Monday evening, she became the subject of plenty of online discourse. The topic? The texture of her dress. Brunson’s stylist, Jessica Paster, took to Instagram to tell the masses that the creases were intentional, owing to the frock’s crushed satin base material.

The fashion identification Instagram account @checkthetag shared a photo of Brunson’s full look, which, according to E! News’s red carpet coverage, had been finalized just hours before on Monday morning. The comments on the post were critical, to say the least.

“I’m sorry but this is a huge miss,” one commenter wrote. “Love her and her stylist but rumpled fabric on the red carpet will never read anything other than a mess.”

It was enough for Paster to fire back with her own comment in reply.

“guys guys guys… it’s crushed satin…” she wrote. “I knew you were gonna say something!! It’s beautiful silloette [sic] on her and fabric… and the color is gorgeous on her.”

And in response to another comment on the same post claiming that “whoever did this to her HATES HER,” Paster wrote, “I adore her sooo much!!! 😍”

Paster also styled The White Lotus nominee Aubrey Plaza for Monday’s awards ceremony, making waves with the actor’s dramatic butter-yellow Loewe creation, a look that made it to Vanity Fair’s own best-dressed list.

While Brunson’s fashion may have perplexed viewers, she was still a winner of one of the night’s big prizes: Brunson scooped up another statuette at the Emmys 2024 ceremony, becoming the first Black woman in 42 years to win outstanding lead actress in a comedy series. She stars as the earnest kindergarten teacher Janine Teagues on Abbott Elementary.
