Rap Beef Drives Prime Sales for Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin, & Future as “Like That” Cracks 1M+ Units Sold in the US

Rap beef drives prime sales for Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar as the latter took aim at Drake and J Cole in his guest verse on “Like That.” The drummed-up beef has earned the track the fastest-selling track of 2024 as it reached over one million units sold in just 18 days.The guest verse Kendrick Lamar raps on “Like That” references a Drake and J. Cole track, “First Person Shooter,” in which Cole raps about the trio. “We the big three like we started a league, but right now I feel like Muhammad Ali,” Cole raps on the 2023 track.

Lamar fires back, “Motherf*ck the big three, n*gga, it’s just big me.” He continues on the track, referencing Drake’s most recent album For All The Dogs. “‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see ‘Pet Sematary.’” Essentially challenging both Drake and J. Cole to prove their rap prowess rather than claiming the title by verse.

Now according to Chart Data, the track “Like That” is the fastest-selling song released in 2024. It achieved one million sales in just 18 days, making it one of the most successful rap songs of the year (so far). It debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, stacking up 59.6 million streams and 5.6 million radio airplays in the first week.Meanwhile on April 5 J. Cole dropped a surprise album Might Delete Later that includes the song “7 Minute Drill.” That song has another shot at Kendrick Lamar, insinuating the rapper only has “one good rap verse” every few years. That diss didn’t land even with J. Cole himself, who walked it back during his set at Dreamville Festival in North Carolina. “That was the lamest, goofiest sh*t,” Cole told the audience—saying he would update the song or remove it.

Meanwhile, Drake has yet to release a song in response to Lamar’s verse on “Like That,” though fans speculate Drake may have alluded to the beef on Instagram. “They rather go to war with me that admit they are their own worst enemy,” the rapper shared in a cryptic post.
