Real Madrid – Man City headlines UEFA Champions League quarterfinal draw

The UEFA Champions League quarterfinals are set with defending champions Manchester City receiving the toughest draw remaining in the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s men will square off with Real Madrid in the final eight of the tournament after eliminating Los Blancos from last season’s semifinal round. The Citizens routed Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate last season en-route to a first-ever Champions League success.

It will also mark the fourth time in the past four editions of the competition that Manchester City and Real Madrid will meet.

English Premier League leaders Arsenal have been drawn against Bundesliga side Bayern Munich. It will mark the first head-to-head showdown between the two clubs since Bayern routed the Gunners 10-2 on aggregate during the 2016-17 UCL competition.

Former Tottenham star Harry Kane will face off against his former London rivals.

Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain will meet Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona in the quarterfinals. While Barcelona’s famous 6-5 aggregate triumph in 2016-17 still remains fresh to many, PSG did eliminate the Catalan club in their last head-to-head series in 2020-21.

Atletico Madrid faces off with Borussia Dortmund in the final quarterfinal tie of this season’s Champions League. It will mark the first time that the two clubs will meet in the knockout round after four previous group stage meetings.

The quarterfinal first legs will take place on April 9/10 and the second legs will occur on April 16/17.
