Record-breaker Caleb Williams reveals four secret ingredients to achieving 25-year first in Bears’ huge win over Jaguars

Caleb Williams won the battle of the No.1 overall picks in a blowout victory over Trevor Lawrence in London.

The Chicago Bears quarterback put on a show in a breakout performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, throwing for 226 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-16 win over Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In his post-game press conference, 22-year-old Williams revealed the four secret ingredients to his record-breaking performance.

“Offensive line, coaching, leadership on team, mindset of progress and to keep going,” Williams told a room full of reporters, including talkSPORT.

In just six games, Williams has thrown nine touchdowns, moving to second on the Bears’ all-time rookie passing TD list, tying Jim McMahon and Kyle Orton who each threw nine touchdowns in eight and 15 games, respectively.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for Williams, who cut a frustrated figure on the opening drive of the game after overseeing a three-and-out.

The Jags led 3-0 after the first quarter but after that it was all Williams and Chicago.

Williams came out in the second quarter like a different player. The first-year star got the Bears back in the game after faking a screen pass to running back D’Andre Swift. He then tossed the ball to tight end Cole Kmet for a 31-yard TD — Kmet’s first of the afternoon.

Rookie Williams still showed his vulnerabilities, though, throwing a badly telegraphed pass to DJ Moore with 5:10 to go in the second quarter that was picked off by Andre Cisco.

Williams’ deep ball has been much improved over the past few weeks but this attempt had nowhere near enough juice on it and it was an easy interception for the Jags safety.

However, the Bears D bailed him with a quick three-and-out on the next drive.

Williams begun putting the wheels on and his running game opened up the Chicago offense.

A fired up Williams orchestrated the next drive, which included a mazy 21-yard run to set the Bears up at the 2-yard line.

He then hit Kmet for a second touchdown of the afternoon for the tight end as their Patrick Mahomes-Travis Kelce like connection began to bear fruit.

Willliams was 12-for-15 passing for 128 yards and two touchdowns at halftime. He did throw a bad interception but he also ran for 56 yards on four carries as the Bears held a 14-3 lead.

The former USC quarterback continued to control the game in the third quarter with his pinpoint accuracy and dazzlingly quick feet.

Williams continued his career performance with his fourth TD of the afternoon, a fade to the back corner of the end zone which Keenan Allen hauled in for his second score of the game.

The Bears are now on a nine-game home win streak and move to 4-2 for the season heading into the bye week.
