Red Sox beat Orioles in extra innings walk-off; win 5-3
The Boston Red Sox win the series against the Orioles 5-3 in an amazing nailbiter. It went to extras, but Tyler O’Neill hit a walkoff for his 30th homer this season.
The starter, Nick Pivetta, also had an amazing game. He went six innings, struck out nine batters, and only gave up a solo homer. It looked like the Sox had the game in the bag, leading 2-1 until the eighth inning, where reliever Justin Slaten gave up another homer, tying the game.Â
In the start of extras, it looked very dicey. Greg Weissert was the pitcher, and gave up a run to the ghost runner. It looked like another could have scored, but Weissert and the defense held strong, and brought up the offense.Â
The first hitter being Rafael Devers made it seem like everything would be ok. That is, until he struck out on three pitches. Then, an error made by the Orioles put Romy Gonzalez on, and moved Jarren Duran to third. Then came up slugger Tyler O’Neill, who blasted a three-run bomb over the Green Monster, winning the game for the Sox.
The Sox will go to New York to face the Yankees for the final series against each other tomorrow at 7:10pm EST.
